is there a good starter guide?

Hopefully I didn't miss this, I didn't see anything stickied in this forum anyways; I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a real good FAQ, that explains all of the things that new players might miss, and a way to get into Wizardry without a lot of headaches and confusion. Something I could read up on first, would make me a lot more comfortable about purchasing this title. I've been on the fence about it for a while now and really want a new RPG to play, but i've been put off somewhat by the extreme difficulty.

I think you might be going about getting into Wizardry the wrong way, as the fun of this game very much comes from figuring out what the hell you're doing! It's all about trial and error, and finding out the best way of doing things on your own, then comparing notes with other players. If you read up on how to get started, you're pretty much defeating the point of playing the game at all!

My advice would be to download the demo (which is free!) and play around with it. See if it's the game for you, and if it is... well, it's only fifteen bucks! (:

Well, I have a list of all classes here, and I could tell you the best ones.
Note that to get some of them, you'd need to be lucky to have 40 bonus points to use, which can take a lot of tries to get.

thing, and the random stats (both + and -) when leveling up really turned me off and seemed like a really silly design choice. From what I played it seems solid if you can get around that stuff, but the whole thing just seemed way too "random" for me (for lack of a better term), and screams "hardcore crowd only". Of course that's just my opinion.

The demo does do a good job at giving you a taste of what the game is all about though, so yea don't just take our word for it, you'd be the best judge of what you like. Give it a shot and just learn as you go.

Well, the 40 bonus thing is only if you want the group, it's not really necessary.

As it may be a little late for the TC, I'll use that one if I ever get back to the game, even though my game is already broken after grinding HOURS for the Muramasa.

I found some other ways of breaking the game that may help, and I never got that sword.

That FAQ wouldn't exist if not for the extensive information we cobbled together at GAF.
