Both Estelle and Joshua, even though I can't spoil more than that (because I don't know that myself).

The reason that Falcom is making Nayuta no Kiseki is to try to find a jump point to bring newcomers in to the storytelling methods of the Kiseki games without them having to need to continuous storylines to follow.
Not sure how successful it is in that regard, though, since the "storytelling methods" of the Kiseki games are of a MUCH higher quality than their counterparts in Nayuta.

Edit: The whole series is NOT new comer friendly!!!
in my opinion a new comer should always begin with the first game of the series, because if you just somehow picked a game for example AO and you like the game afterwards, playing older Trails games wouldn't be interesting any more because you already know things like who didn't died or what would happen to joshua etc...

The other side of that coin, though, is the Ys series -- where the storylines are standalone, virtually every game plays differently and the first two games feel a lot more old-school than any other.

Or the Final Fantasy series, where every game is completely unconnected to every other and there's a VAST difference in gameplay.

Some series are best played in order, but others? Best played OUT of order.

Chronological order, sure... but not release order. Ys Origin is the second-newest.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the chronological order. Carry on.

Yeah, yeah. We get it Tom. We already know how much you hate Nayuta's story.

Oh, they've released new screenies! About time
And too bad it's released on October 18th. It would have been a nice birthday present for me, should it is released on October 2nd.

Yeah... but I honestly prefer Sora no Kiseki's artworks of Estelle.

I did expect this, but I really was intrested in the gameplay rather than the history and the quality of the dialogues : P
