Yeah, I wasn't implying any insider knowledge or anything there. I'm just pretty much assuming it's coming, because... I mean... why wouldn't it? (:

Late reply, but I think they're planning something a bit different for a western release. I think either a Vita port or a PS3 version (or both, given how Sony has pushed cross-compatibility and SE is doing it with FFX) would be in the cards. It would be a good reason for them to hold off on announcing it if that were the case, so they don't lose any Japanese PSP sales and could possibly get some people to double-dip.

Considering we aren't the primary audience, why would Square go out of their way to port something that's so polished? I mean, if Japan gets a port then I could see the sense in that, but there aren't a lot of games that have been released on more platforms here than in Japan. A PSN version of the game is already compatible with Vita.

Sony would never allow Square to release a PSP game as-is on Vita/PS3 at retail. They would need to basically re-make the entire game to get it on either of those platforms as anything but a DD psp title.

I don't know, a Vita port seems pretty possible to me. I know I've read a few articles in the past where Sony refused ports where nothing was changed and the graphics were bad, but this isn't just any game. I'm fairly certain that that graphics would still be nice on the Vita, and this is Final Fantasy, not Unknown Game X. It also seems to me that Sony is being a little more open with the games they allow (but this is just from what I've read, not sure how true it is).

If they are just going PSP only, they probably have better things to work on than Type-0 because it's probably not going to sell very well, at least to Square/FF standards. Between piracy and the lack of interest in the system they are just better off releasing it elsewhere, and they have two "easy" options thanks to Sony.

I just don't see why they would essentially send the game to die on PSP, especially digital-only for a massive franchise like FF. That's giving up sales since a lot of the casual buyers that don't know about a game until they see it in Gamestop or hear about it from a friend will never know it exists.

Edit: So basically, the fact we aren't the primary audience is the reason I think we'll see it elsewhere. People like us are the only ones who would buy it on PSP and selling to such a small audience probably isn't what SE has in mind for the game.

Just to add to what Zeta said, the other issue is that Square would have to spend hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to port the game elsewhere and give the game the increased polish required to meet Sony standards. While the audience here is dreadfully small (particularly with the PSP), why would they do that specifically for THIS audience? Now if they already planned to port the game elsewhere for Japanese consumption, it does make more sense.

I don't think they'd go with DL only on this title because that'd be nuts. This is one of the few titles that can still go retail and expect to do reasonably well...if nowhere near where it should be.

We're talking about a localization though :P And I don't think a port would cost all that much. Have you seen the Monster Hunter Remaster? It looks more like a PS2 game than what you would expect from a PS3 game.

Anyway, I guess we just agree to disagree. I honestly think we'll see the game on another platform or not at all, but I wouldn't mind being surprised.
