Because Ys games are awesome, so shhhhh, don't give them any ideas! (:

(Also, the Ys games sell better outside of Japan, for what it's worth...)

Yes, judging from the size of the Ys games and how much they sell, I'd agree, but if it wasn't for XSEED, I'd say Falcom would be better off (financially) releasing only Legend of Heroes games.

No way. The Ys games may not sell QUITE as much as the Legend of Heroes games, but they still sell better than any OTHER Falcom property... and if Falcom created ONLY Legend of Heroes games, they'd lose their fanbase pretty quickly. That would be like Square Enix releasing ONLY Final Fantasy titles! It would do nothing but make their cash cow stale and alienate all the fans of their other series.

Besides... and I don't feel bad saying this, since we've released more Ys games than Legend of Heroes games at this point... Ys games are waaaaay better than Legend of Heroes games, in my opinion. I'd take a new Ys game over a new LoH game any day of the week!

(Which isn't to say I dislike Legend of Heroes, of course -- I *love* Legend of Heroes! -- I just find Ys titles to be more personally appealing to me due to their incredibly fast, fun gameplay.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you guys announce this game and I'm putting down the cash for Vita like tomorrow. LoH is very impressive in terms of its scope, but there's just something about Ys in terms of its package that rocks. It gets the action RPG formula down better than anything else.

If I could read japanese, I'd take a new LoH over Ys any day. Since I can't, and Ys games get localized so much faster, I'll take them first.

Financially, for XSEED, Ys > LOH, but for Falcom, LOH > Ys. That's why I said if Falcom never got to sign a publishing deal with a western company, they'd be better off developing only LOH games. I've yet to play any Ys game by now, but from the moment I brought this issue up, I'm strictly talking about money.

Yeah, but again, imagine if Square Enix ONLY released Final Fantasy games from now on. In the short term, that might make them a lot of money... but sooner or later, Final Fantasy fans would get tired of the CONSTANT STREAM of new Final Fantasy games, and fans of other Square Enix properties would start to get disillusioned with the company and just stop supporting them altogether. Ultimately, focusing on one series simply wouldn't work in the long run, as you'd be alienating fans of your other titles AND you'd be over-saturating the market with titles in your most popular series, causing them to lose a lot of their appeal.

From a financial standpoint, even just taking Japan's market into account, Falcom has two EXTREMELY FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL series: Legend of Heroes, and Ys. One (LoH) is MORE financially successful than the other... but they're still both cash factories, in the end, and it wouldn't make any sense to drop either one of them. In the short term, sure, focusing entirely on Legend of Heroes would make Falcom a lot of money... but in the long term, it would cost them a lot of fans AND their profits would slowly start to wane.

Besides which, Ys games have been making more and more money for Falcom in recent years, with Ys Seven topping all previous records. Ys IV Vita is going to be a HUGE hit for them, I think, and has the possibility of making more money than any of their PSP Legend of Heroes games. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Ys series proved to be more profitable overall in 2-3 years. It used to be Falcom's flagship series, making them more money than all their other games combined, INCLUDING Legend of Heroes. And gaming trends, like all other trends, are kind of cyclical... so it's only a matter of time before Ys winds up on top again.

Also, you haven't played any Ys games?! Man, you should definitely check out the series! It's one of my favorites of all time, with Ys: The Oath in Felghana ranking as one of my top ten favorite video games in history.

@Shizuka If every company focused on their best series, the gaming market would be a sad place. And it's always better to put your eggs in more than one basket, even at the loss of an egg or two.

And what is this nonsense about you never having played an Ys game?!!! I would've thought that anyone who has a PSP with the slightest interest in fun video games would already have played Ys 7 (which is my personal favourite PSP game). I know you've written that it's pretty costly to get video games in Brazil, but if you can get Fate/Extra, you can get Ys 7. I assure you it's worth it. 30 hours of nonstop action adventure with great boss battles and phenomenal music.

Anyways, I can't say that I've played all the LoH games, but from what I've played, I like Ys better. Better music, better gameplay, just more fun overall. Though LoH is deeper, and still very enjoyable.

I could get it, but I'm not interested enough to warrant the import. Someday, I plan on having all Ys games, but not while I have better games to get.

No such thing as better games than Ys! (:

Seriously, Ys Seven and Ys: The Oath in Felghana are my top two favorite PSP games I own. Nothing else we -- or anyone else -- has released even comes close!
