This blog contains the following violent metaphors:
1. "beating them into ‘natural English’ sounding submission".
2. "tenderize that text into paste with the holy morning star of localization".
3. "struck on the head by the blunt (and often sharp-edged) raw translations".
4. "frying my brain".
Ok that last one was a stretch, but do think it's fair to say that Hiro has quite a striking way with words.
I also enjoyed the image of "chugging about on my robot looking for ... Britishisms".What kind of dialogue do you get in these first translations? "I say, I say, Red, old bean, that mech could with a bit of spiffing up and no two ways about it!"
Oh yes, in addition to the distinctive writing style of the localisation blog, the game also looks quite interesting. I approve of throwing rockets back at flying battleships. It's not quite throwing battleships back at battleships, but it's promising nevertheless.
yeah i enjoyed the blogs pretty much.i liked the way it was written,it was witty and charming and funny at the same time.jess i think that you could write books,cuz you certainly have the talents and charms for it

I... I'm just violent! But that's my role. Tom's the nice one in the office. But, 'cmon. Don't tell me you didn't smile a little at the thought of editing being done with a spiked object normally used for crushing bones.
As for the "Britishisms" there weren't many, and actually I might have been the wrong editor for this project because I spent my early grammar-formative years in Scotland (so it all sounds normal to me), but there were certain turns of phrase that aren't used here:
Example from the text -
NOE trans: "One day this drill is going to come in useful..."
NOA fix: "One day this drill is going to come in handy..."
"Come in useful" is definitely NOT something commonly used here and sounds horribly wrong to American ears (well, these ears anyway, and I polled some others). It cropped up quite a few times in the text, so I could only assume it was common to British English.
There was also a mention of a "mat hole" that made me smile.
That said, don't expect many changes. I only got to do a brief skim of things and basically just shook out whatever bugs I could find. Nothing major, or even medium, was changed.
Perrandy: Thank you! These were kind of rushed, so they're not what I'd call my better works... (the pretty pictures help salvage them), but I do hope to finish my novel draft (I will attempt to actually be a writer once I move closer to work in the next month) soon!

I might be more interested in this than the topic at hand, ha! I hope that works out well for you, I wish I could write halfway decently, but I don't get along with words too well usually.Perrandy: Thank you! Aww... Are you saying the blogs are boring? I am getting a little blog fatigued. But hurray for fun writing (^_^), and once I have something workable to share about the novel it might be fun to have people post their literary children in the forum. I'm sure there are other writers here. Do you have any creative works in progress?
