    Epic Anime Recommendation List

I originally made this this incredibly huge list for a friend of mine looking for anime recommendations. I expanded it when the Fangamer podcast was asking for anime recommendations. I know that most of Miyazaki's films are not on the list but that was because my friend had already seen most of them. If you think I forgot some awesome anime or you would like to recommend something to me (besides Makoto Shinkai films or Evangelion) than post a comment.

Because this is mostly taste, I could give a veery long list of things you might add and things I wouldn't put (well, this last one wouldn't be very long), but instead, I'll just add one tv series: Monster. That is a great anime that is always the first I recommend (unless I see the person asking recommendations just want some ecchi stuff or similar xD)

I am watching Monster with my brothers and I am enjoying it a lot. I have not finished it which is way I didn't put it on the list originally but I will add it now. Feel free to make your own really long list as well, I encourage it.

The first one that popped into my head when I read epic was Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is pretty epic too I guess. FMA is my favourite manga anyway.

Aside from that I've got a ton of anime to recommend, but nothing I would really call epic. I'm more into the slice of life/comedies and animes of that nature. There are some fantastic ones out there (Ala Excel Saga, FLCL, Lucky Star, K-ON, etc) but when I think of epic I really only think of action.

Gintama is the (opinion) funniest anime ever.
Currently Playing: Fire Emblem: Awakening, Digimon Adventure, Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed

Games Beaten in 2013: 8: Retro Game Challenge, Corpse Party 2U, Code of Princess, Dark Souls, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Atelier Meruru, Yakuza: Dead Souls, Liberation Maiden

CLANNAD - Personal favorite. Really heartwarming but will also make you cry like a BACONBACONBACONBACONBACON. Also has a wonderful soundtrack.
Steins;Gate - Last episode is airing on Tuesday, but it is pretty much anime of the year and I don't think Persona 4 can even dethrone it.
Mobile Suit Gundam The 08th MS Team - Second favorite Gundam anime after G.
Shin Mazinger Shougeki Z-Hen - It just kinda ends, but it's such a fun, non-stop ride that I can forgive that.
Aim for the Top! Gunbuster and Aim for the Top! 2 Diebuster - Gunbuster is about the first girl to ever be given the Gainax Bounce as she discovers she can be manlier than 80% of mecha pilots out there and eventually kills a bunch of aliens. Diebuster is about a robot girl who rips her top off and Inazuma Kicks things, and it's like beta Gurren Lagann. They're both awesome, even if Gunbuster only really has one real fight, but it's so good you won't care.

I called the topic "epic" in that the list was really long, not epic in the traditional sense. Please by all means recommend some more low key stuff. I recommended Bobby's in Deep and Nineteen19 and I would hardly call them epic.

I watched the first episode of CLANNAD on Netflix, it was not my cup of tea. I like romance stories, like Fruits Basket and Nineteen19, but I could not stand CLANNAD.

"Just go and find more. All you have to do is find more new and happy things. It's not so hard." (Everything becomes color)! ...

The music and the ending credits were great though.

I have heard good things about Shin Mazinger Shougeki Z-Hen and I plan on seeing it at some point. It was directed by the same person who created G Gundam, Yasuhiro Imagawa, so I am expecting great things.

I saw the first 3 episodes of Gunbuster and I didn't really like it, but I was in a bad mood that day. I'm going to give it another chance eventually.

That might also be part of the problem. Gunbuster gets almost literally twice as good by episode 4. In my opinion, episodes 1-3 aren't that great, and Gunbuster's one of my single favorite anime ever. So yeah.
