    Now this is neat:

    Some hackers have created tools that allow them to take the PS1 versions English text and re-inserted it into the PSP version. Too bad they say they wont release anything until their own re-translation is done ;_;

    Suikoden has suffered a lot in the past from a lack of availability and a lack of awareness. I really think that gamers need to be reintroduced to this franchise, the proper way.

    At this point, a UMD release seems out of the question, but I think a PSN-only release would do just fine. XSeed, what say you?

    indeed!

    would be nice to be able to play this on my PSP......or Vita.

    Suikoden 2, how i love thee, and Konami how much i despise thee for breaking up the Suikoden team.

    I heard in the past that Konami was interested in releasing it, but it didn't fit in with SCEA's "new content" policy for PSP ports, so they couldn't release it even if they wanted to.

    What is Sony's "new content" policy for PSP ports?

    It's a bit of an old thing that doesn't really apply now, but the story goes that back when the PSP first came out Sony America didn't want companies to lazily throw ports of PS1 games onto the platform. I remember back in '04/'05 that "PortStation Portable" was something a lot of people called PSP. They wanted new games to show off PSP's power, but they would still accept ports as long as there was a "substantial" amount of new content to distance itself from the original. I'm talking about ports like Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

    Sony Europe, on the other hand, didn't seem to really care. They accepted any and all kinds of ports. It's presumed this is why Europe got the Breath of Fire 3 and Tales of Eternia ports while America didn't. They're ports with very little new content compared to the game I mentioned earlier. So when Suikoden 1 + 2 failed to materialize in the West, it was presumed this was the cause of that. Of course Europe didn't get the game either, so maybe Konami never actually tried to localize it?

    You don't really see Sony America going around with that policy anymore though. You've got PS1 and PS2 Classics, HD remakes and collections, PS3-Vita cross-compatible games, and so on. If it was ever true, it probably died awhile back like SCEA's "no visual novel" or anti-2D policies.

    ....i can't help but wonder if they didn't have the rule in place, that the PSP might have done better.

    I am admittedly a bit sceptical that the removal of this rule would have made a substantial impact on the PSP market. The system had specific focuses for its content, (Mostly jRPG's) and anyone who enjoyed said content picked up a PSP already. Titles such as Suikoden I+II would certainly be icing on the cake, but given the rich amount of jRPG titles that already exist on the PSP, I do not think direct ports would directly sell systems.
