    We're talking elements of harmony

In an attempt to stir up some more conversation on the Lunar board, here's a topic! I believe one of the high points for any game is the music. Music can be just as important a factor in your enjoyment of a game as much as the gameplay and story are. Music is a big factor for me in Lunar.

How did you guys enjoy the music? The non-vocals were great as usual and then there were the songs with lyrics. Those songs in particular seem to stick with me. I mean the lyrics from Silver Star Story Complete are ingrained in my brain so deep that they will never go away, or be replaced by anything, but that aside the songs in this game were great. Once I got used to them (i.e. took off the nostalgia glasses for a bit)

What did you guys think of the new lyrics? I'll admit like I said I wasn't a fan at first (of the lyrics, the singing was great), but they really grew on me, especially after listening to the full versions on the soundtrack. The boat song in particular seemed more touching than the original, and seemed to give you a better feel for Luna's feelings. All in all I'd say Jennifer Stigle and the songwriters did a great job on the songs, yes?

Oh boy... this is a bit of a touchy subject for me, being as big of die hard Lunar fan as I am, but I want to start off by saying that I can't thank XSEED enough for picking up this title. I really had a lot of fun playing through another re-imagining of the Silver Star Story, and being as big of a Lunar fan as I am, I'm glad to be able to have another version it in my collection.

For the music, I agree that the non-vocal music was indeed well done and true to the original in every respect, but I do have to say that the opening (Wings) and especially Wind’s Nocturne songs weren’t quite up to par for me. As a fan of the series I really appreciated that XSEED was able to secure Jenny to sing again for Luna, but the change in lyrics was really unfortunate.

I’m not sure if the new lyrics were a style choice or a back up option to not being able to secure the original lyrics written by Vic Ireland, but while the lyrics may fit closer to a literal translation, a lot of the magic these songs had was lost by trying to stay too close to a literal translation in my opinion.

Again hiring Jenny is evidence that effort was indeed spent on the songs, but the lyrics just felt stretched and squeezed to fit the melody in far too many places. It just feels like a lot more effort could have been spent on making the song flow better while still retaining the meaning.

With Wind’s Nocturne, there’s no denying that Vic took liberties with his rendition of the song, but I personally think Luna’s feelings came through loud and clear while still creating a song that sounded more like the melody was created for the lyrics and not the other way around, which is the big issue here in my opinion.

Anyway, I don’t want to end this on a negative note because as I said I loved the game, it’s a welcome addition to my collection, and I don’t regret my purchase one bit!

Lumina expressed my exact feelings on the two vocal songs pretty much word for word, so no need to get into that. As for the rest of the music, I really enjoyed hearing everything revamped, but not having Lyton's music sound terrible and then change once you "fix it" in the caves really bugged the crap out of me. I thought it was a pretty big oversight on Game Arts' side, almost as big as just leaving out the entire ocarina scene at the end of game in Althena's Tower...

I agree, But then again Feelings of expression come thru the game with the music and gives it more of a deepful meaning to the game.

I remember reading somewhere that it was a forced change. I personally thought the new version was ok, but then I think all lyrics are awful so that's just me. :P

Not quite sure what you mean here, I'm fairly certain we all agree that having these songs in the games was a good thing, we're more so discussing which version we enjoyed over the other.

LSSSC has songs with lyrics as well, just different lyrics.
