It's happened to me a couple times, since I re-bound guard to L instead of whatever it's bound to by default. I actually have it in some video I recorded too, on accident though, I was just trying to test remotejoy. It's not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. On the plus side, your HP/SP still regenerate during assist animations if you have the proper accessories equipped.

So is this game worth importing for the gameplay? It looks really nice.

It's worth importing just for the 150 songs of pure Falcom goodness. The story is pretty much just an excuse for a bunch of Ys and Kiseki characters to fight it out in Xanadu Next's world with cameos from a ton of Falcom's works, plus a famously trolling mage. They do have quite a bit of fun despite the flimsy plot (hearing Olivier trying to out-ham himself is a treat) but it's not going to knock your socks off and it's very obviously not meant to be considered canon. The gameplay works just fine on its own if you can figure out what all the accessories and Support Characters do.

That said, the game does rather casually spoil some plot twists from all the games it draws its main cast from and it's best to have played at least FC, SC and Ys Seven first, provided that's something you consider important.

I've seen a few videos of the story mode on Youtube. It seems that you apparently gain other characters as allies by beating them up as you meet them? o_o (Well, it is an excuse-for-epic-crossover game, but still.)

Then again, it might make sense if I could understand what they're actually saying. (And what's up with the talking Pikkard?)

Yeah, that part is nowhere near as hard to explain as you'd think -- basically, everybody's been brainwashed, and whoever you fight as has to "beat some sense into them," as it were, to snap them out of it.

The funniest part of the game is meeting Adol and having him just stare at everybody without saying a word... and this time, people actually notice and are all like, WHY WON'T YOU SAY ANYTHING?!

If you play AS Adol, though, he does speak.

A lot, to the point that it becomes a joke. He even gets dialogue options, which nobody else gets.

That would be Lappy, your exposition companion who will explain the whole brainwashing thing to you at the start of the game (along with what you need to do in order to stop the demon responsible) and use his powers to help restore your allies to normal after you beat them up. He appears as a talking Pom if you're playing a story route starring a Kiseki character.

I know right? That was certainly entertaining XD

@Lappy: Hello, I am the exposition fairy. I am here to lay the ground rules out of nowhere, got it? Okay.
