Your favourite Anime of all time/ most unknown Anime

Hey Guys, I thought of starting a thread here too ^^

Do you happen to have any Anime you like the most and is there maybe an Anime that you watched that is not really popular ? Please try to write some few sentences of why you like your favourite so much ^^

I would like to start with mine:

    Favourite Anime: Evangelion

I downright love Mechs and Psychological Animes Evangelion covers both and the End got me downright the most ! After I watched End of Evangelion I just sat for about 2 hours of thinking, what I just witnessed. Damn, I do not know any kind of other anime that I love more than Eva

As for my Anime that nobody would not know: Gasaraki Old Mecha Anime mixed with Shintoism. Just epic

    How about you guys ?

My favourite anime is really hard to choose, but if I had to:

I guess I'd say Lucky Star. It's a slice of life comedy staring the best otaku to ever grace the Earth (Konata) and her gang of lovely friends. The series starts off kind of slow, but picks up fast. It's the kind of anime I could watch over and over and over again. We need a season 2 now.

An anime that no-one would know? Well I've already mentioned Nightwalker The Midnight Detective on this board a few times now, so let's do it again :P A story of a vampire detective solving cases involving demons while running away from his past. It's not the greatest anime out there, but it was a lot better than I expected.

Favorite anime? CLANNAD, no doubt. Simply because I could relate to it so much when I was in high school, and I adored the cast, music, and plot. I finally got around to purchasing the first season (they didn't have After Story at AX ;_;), so I'm pretty happy with that.

Probably the most obscure thing I've watched that I actually think was good (it's been like 2 years, though) is Black Lion, or Jigen Sengokushi: Kuro no Shishi - Jinnai Hen. The first review on that page actually does a pretty good job at describing it in that first bit, in all honesty. It's really ridiculous, but that's why I liked it.

Yeah, that is a good one. I still need to finish watching it; I stopped after season 1 because I wanted to finish getting season 2, but... other things went into my mind. Maybe I'll pull this out to watch next, then...

As for my favorites, my top 3 have not changed: Marmalade Boy, KareKano, and Gravitation. As for unknown, well... I moderate at an anime forum, so I kinda can't vote on this one...

Berserk, Record of Lodoss War, Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken a.k.a. Les Adventures de Fly, Ronin Warriors, Shurato, Saint Seiya, and maybe Ys? If it's medievally and/or game related, more chances I will like it.

A little-known anime series of which I'm a big fan would be Voogie's Angel. In anime form, it's a 3-episode OVA series. Originally, it was a radio show, and I have the entirety of that on CD (all first edition releases, too). I think the radio series was generally better than the OVA series; certainly, the original character designs were much better, because they got redesigned by Obari Masami when he got hired to direct the anime. I'm just not a fan of his style. Anyway, I have a sizable collection of Voogie merchandise, and I've actually talked (electronically) to the creator of the series, Takeuchi Aoi, before.

The series is a future-based science fiction comedy, though with dramatic elements, particularly in the OVA's final episode. The Japanese voice cast is full of big names.

I have 2 not so known Animes too, that I watched in my early years:

    The Vision of Escaflowne
    and Powerstone

Escaflowne was set in an alternate Universe in which a schoolgirl teleported in there (Like Zero no Tsukaima I think). Combined with Swordfighting Mechs that transform into Dragons, a really good anime. The English OP had surprisingly an classic house musik track called "People" Dont bother to watch the movie though. It sucks. I remember the music being great in that one too

As for Powerstone, anyone remember the good 'ol Dreamcast ? Exactly these two games that were like Smash Brothers in 3D. The Anime had cool fight scenes, transformations and awesome and memorable characters ! That is the only thing that I thank C(r)apcom for making such a game, beside with Fate/Unlimited Codes

Are you kidding? Escaflowne, obscure? It's one of the most famous mecha anime series of all time, though perhaps not quite on the scale of Gundam, Macross, or Evangelion. It was Sakamoto Maaya's debut role, I believe, and it was produced (or at least co-created) by Kawamori Shouji. The music was composed by Kanno Yoko and performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. The characters were designed by Yuuki Nobuteru, and it was a Sunrise-produced series. This was no small production!

Escaflowne has one of the most richly designed worlds I've ever seen, and it's one of the most absorbing series I've ever seen (from about episode 17 until the end, I simply could not stop watching). I think the music is some of Kanno's best work, and I have all (I think all; I have 4) of the soundtrack CDs. It's similar to Kawamori's earlier (and later) Macross works in that it's a mecha-heavy story with a love triangle (he seems awfully good at making such shows). Absolutely recommended viewing.
