There are exceptions, naturally, but if it would save on production costs, it's better than not seeing the game at all. And yes, the first two have really good voice work, which I would hate to see go, but again, it's something I'd be willing to give up to see the game at all. As long as I can understand the story, I'm happy, though I would miss the little quips upon selecting characters and their kill phrases. I dunno, I just really want to see this game brought stateside, by any means necessary.

Personally, I found Avan insufferable, although I would generally agree with you that the voices gave the characters (especially minor ones) additional personality.

Yakuza series has Japanese voices with English subtitles in the US. The first Yakuza had famous people doing the English voices, too. I think there's ways around it if someone really wants to get around it.

I hate Avan's English voice too. The rest seem good though.

I personally found that the voices in Valkyria Chronicles 2 weren't as good as its predessor ( Avan, I'm talking to you.) but definitely still tolerable. I greatly missed the addition of a Japanese Voice Track. I love hearing the voices that the characters were originally designed to have.

Besides that, though, I feel like this game really needs a chance to come over. A series as good as this really couldn't simply be snuffed out. Thank for looking into it, AngrySalesMonkey, I think I speak for all of us when I say you have no idea how much we appreciate it.

Here's to hoping we hear some promising news, eh? =D

Even if it did have Japanese-only voices, I think Xseed would still need to pay original voice actors in some way.
Manga Gamer had a problem with getting voices into Kara no Shoujo because of complications (wanted a lot of money, iirc) with the voice acting studio for it.

A lot about VC2 bugged the crap out of me (characters, reused maps, plot) and I was overall extremely disappointed with it, especially with VC1 being one of my all-time favorite games, but what I saw of VC3 looked much more promising. It would be a huge shame to see it go un-localized, and if SEGA is not interested in doing it themselves, I'd personally be ecstatic to see XSEED take a turn at the series. Make friends with SEGA, XSEED! ...then take 7th Dragon from them as well!! They seem to be just sitting on it, and it's infuriating....

I didn't even think about that... It might just be easier to go with a dub anyway. Of course, considering the amount of cast that returns, not just in the main game, but in the DLC itself, it might be tough for another company to get those voices together. I'd say if anyone can do it though, Xseed is the one. They got Jenny Stigile back for Lunar: Silver Star Harmony (which brought about the hilarious fury of Vic Ireland).

I sincerely doubt that finding new quality english voice actors for the VC3 cast would be more cost effective than using the original audio. Also the original voices all match the characters perfectly. Watch this and then try to tell me I'm wrong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F0g0xffqtA

Oh no, I'm not saying that the Japanese cast isn't good for 3, but there are some characters with voices I just cannot stand. Edy's Japanese voice is like rusty nails on a chalkboard. And that's not even when she's singing, which is supposed to be bad. Japanese voices don't always equal better. For instance, Rise Kujikawa from Persona 4. Incredibly annoying in Japanese, perfectly fine in English. Granted, it's all just a matter of preference anyways, but still.

Oh, and as for the cost effectiveness of getting the Japanese cast, there are variables involved. Sometimes, the price asked is more than the price of just hiring new people for a dub. It's a case by case thing, and just because the first one had Japanese voices doesn't mean Sega would be fine letting a company not owned by them use them.

    Also, you're wrong. Just kidding.
