Considering most people aren't expecting the Vita to be around for another 3 years, that's a hard question to answer.

You lost me. Are people expecting the Vita to be around for 3 years? Because I had a conversation with someone on twitter saying if things keep going the way they are in general for the games industry (Micheal Bay Costly) the Vita will be discontinued sometime in 2014.

Now stop and think what system those 3 games are on. A quick Google search told me all 3 are PSP titles. What did the PSP have in Japan that the Vita probably will never see? Monster Hunter.

The reason those games had good numbers on the PSP is because of a userbase.The Vita on the other hand is a financial cesspool that the internet detectives over at NeoGaf are laughing pretty hard at Sony over.

I actually can't blame anyone for feeling bad for Sony though. You can't help that the parts alone for the Vita cost $160 USD and that their gaming division may have something to do with the company bleeding money.

If you re-read my post I did state "the three PSP entries" so I was aware of the system they were released on. There is no basis for Vita because this is first go on that system, so felt previous Sony handheld was closest thing we had.

Userbase is a good indicator, but sometimes being one of the few big titles can be beneficial for a game. Persona 4 Golden saw a ridiculous adoption rate of something like 1 in 6 Japanese Vita owners having it. By comparison earlier in this thread we were discussing odds of SKB in NA having adoption rate of 1 in 60 3DS (which would be good). I happen to think Hatsune Miku will be one of a handful of Vita titles that moves the needle for a week or two, but overall I have serious concerns as to long term viability ("Tearaway" did look good though).

Vita has serious issues, the announcement at Gamescom of no price drop until 2013 shows how Sony failed to learn from all the other more powerful hand helds Nintendo has fended off through the years (PSP was surprising, as you say due to phenomenon known as Monster Hunter). In fact the Vita is in part struggling because of the PSP still being respectable.

I am not calling it dead yet given it has not seen a full holiday season (when sales really pick up). If we are having this conversation in a year, then the doom and gloom will really have some substance to it. I think Sony has to convince developers that they are committed to the platform. How they do that when the Playstation 4 is likely in development (my guess is 2014 release) is very tricky. They weathered a poor early PS3 life cycle to have a very respectable console (world wide it is nearly even with Microsoft's XBox 360, Nintendo still way ahead of both overall).

Often people like to jump to bold predictions because saying "wait and see" or "not sure yet" does not light up headlines. The game industry may face a contraction, but that is after a boom period of expansion in the past decade, so I'm not as worried as some are.

I'm calling wait to see what happens at TGS. If they show a lot of great games for the Vita from Japanese devs then I think it will live on. If not, then......who knows.

You know, In my eyes, buying a JP 3DS shows that you have little faith in this game coming over on it's own merits. Also, any potential publisher might not feel as good about localizing this game anymore if they know people over here already have it. Sure I have heard that people will still buy it if it comes out in NA despite them already have imported the game, so that's always good to know.

It would be nice if you could hold off on buying a JP copy at least until some announcements are made but that's just my two cents. Other than that, continue on about your business.

I just finished reading chapter 10. Perhaps I just tend to read manga too fast, but these chapter feel so short. They're great, but I gotta wait another month to see what happens next. *falls onto my knees and stretches my arms up into the air as i look up at rhe ceiling* THE HORROR OF CLIFF HANGERS!! ;-;

Anyways, I can't wait to see what happens next.
