You do have a point, this is ESRB were talking about, they would still give this game the good'ol M-hammer treatment if it got a B rating in japan. Now that were off that topic, we haven't settled whether or not XSEED would even bother to advertise this game.

The physical vs. digital debate is undecided as well as the file size debate too, the profitable debate is on hold, the media backlash debate seems like an interesting topic, the ESRB debate is shot down as of now. Also, there is the review score debate and I want to wait and see if anyone is up for a limited edition packaged release debate if they think the game will sell outstandingly well (just a slight hunch). The localization debate is the driving force behind this whole topic. There's still the back-up plan debate if XSEED decides to bail out, but then again, Marvelous is the one that will be pitching the game to a willing publisher in the US when it's released, should we debate on that too?

Wow, there is a lot of debatable things about this game, they should rename this to "Senran Kagura localization/discussion/debate", my mind is jacked with so many possible outcomes, I'm actually having a blast.

If someone wanted a physical copy so badly, couldn't they get the English version to actually play and import a Japanese version to display proudly on their shelves and whisper sweet nothings to?

For whatever reason, Nintendo, in all of their weird decision-making, decided to region-lock the 3DS. None of us can import anything. Believe me, if we could just import the game without having to import a Japanese 3DS along with it, a lot of us would have done so already. It's a shame, too, because apparently a lot of publishers gauge how popular certain Japanese games are by how much they're imported, and we can't demonstrate SKB's popularity that way.

I know right, if I could have imported it without buying a whole new jp 3ds I would have done so already. The Big N decides regions locks are the way to go, I mean come on theres only so much mario one can take before it starts getting stale.

Nah, I mean, in regards to the physical/digital thing, those who put their own kind of worth in actually having a physical copy could buy a Japanese copy just to have the box, cart, etc. in their hands, while they use a digital copy for actually playing it on a US 3DS. It's basically buying the game twice, but it satisfies that itch to have the real thing in your hands.

Maybe for a few but not everyone. I know this for myself that it still wouldn't be satisfying, but I'd settle for a digital download over nothing. And if I had to I'd go sit and wait at a McDonalds while I wait for the game to finish downloading. (I think a lot of people keep forgetting that McDonalds has free wifi and the Nintendo Zone can also be accessed at these hot spots.)

Oh yeah, sure, I get that. I said a while back that while most of all I'd simply like to see this game come over in English, I'd still like something like a limited physical run available to pre-order if it were possible, since I do understand the appeal of actually having the thing in your hands and knowing that you definitely, surely, own this thing.

Was just mentioning something people could do if they really, absolutely wanted a physical copy to own but the game ended up being digital-only for our shores.

Nintendo making the 3DS region-locked and then it's reasoning why they chose to make it region-locked makes it sound like Nintendo is feeling threatened or worried about falling behind in sales. The thing is though that by making the 3DS region locked is driving some potential customers to vita completely. One of the reasons the DS got so popular was because it wasn't region-locked and allowed people to import games that didn't get localized. I don't know if the number of games being requested for Nintendo games has increased or not, but I do know that many are now forced to beg publishers to localize games or they'll be forced to buy a Japanese 3DS and import games that don't get localized.

Congrats on getting 1000 posts everyone! Also, this thread is just a couple thousand views short of Ragnarock Odyssey's thread how's that for support?

A limited physical release? That's an interesting idea. Though if a company does that, they usually end up on amazon for $100+ (Radiant Historia anyone?).

The recent thing with Atlus and Persona 4 Arena gave me a theory on the region-locking though. Seems like it may be influenced by the suffering economy, once again. Nintendo tries to release its big titles in different regions very close to each other, right? With the difference between Japan prices and US prices, without region locking people in Japan can save a fair chunk of change by importing foreign versions, and apparently sniping from each other does not bode well for offices in different regions.

That being said, I heard it's the software that's locked, right? If I'm not mistaken and that is the case, why does every developer have the lock on?
