I've read a lot of arguments in the past about how they worked themselves into a corner story wise, but there are so many Dragonmasters in the lore of Lunar already that they could spawn a series just about the adventures of Dragonmasters past, or they could take the series to the Blue Star and start anew while still keeping what happened on Lunar intact.

Yeah, even the "they worked themselves into a corner" thing isn't that big of a deal either. So what, no more Dragonmaster, it's not like the story still can't move forward from that point. As you said though the adventures of the previous Dragonmasters would have also been pretty interesting. That's one of the first things I thought when the in-game book was describing some of them.

And hell, even the "no more Althena, no more Dragonmasters, the 'Goddess' lives distant from Lunar now" angle has some really interesting possibilities. What the hell does Lunar do now that Althena for-real isn't around any longer and there are no more Official Legendary Heroes?

Yah... No, I always imagine a new hero who revives Althena and becomes a new Dragonmaster and protects the world from certain peril ^^

I'm still waiting for a PSOne Classics release of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. I supported Silver Star Harmony by buying it, I guess it's just gonna be remakes and rereleases from now on... which kinda sucks.
