    Anyone play MMOs? :o

I used to but I've never spent much quality time with them.

I think the longest I've ever stuck with one was Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst (PC). Otherwise, I've played a bit of Ragnarok Online (beta 2) and Granado Espada (Asian servers).

I could swear there was another one but I can't recall which.

Oh, I'm probably thinking about DJMax Online but that was like a max of 8 simultaneous players in battle mode or whatever it was called. :P

I played WoW and Dark Age of Camelot. But I need a pause after 4-8 weeks, because it's always the same. And I played WoW the last time for over 3 years.

I once played Mabinogi. I tried to solo everything. I failed. I was a damn introvert that really wanted to play it like a single-player game, which is not exactly doable. I had some friends, but I mostly ended up either sniping enemies (had a really great archer character) or healing everyone like a white mage, because I was so... pathetic, otherwise.

I'm an introvert anyways, so after my brief foray into MMOs, I decided they really weren't for me, and went back to quietly playing single-player games in my room. I also really don't do multiplayer, unless I'm actually confident that I can do well. And even then, I'll play if I really, really like the person I'm doing co-op/etc/SOCIALINTERACTION with. More like, I'll do it in meatspace. Come on, it's more fun actually gathering around a console with your friends, right?

You can't tell here that I'm like that in real life, but I kind of am. It's not as sad as it sounds, really. I just find great entertainment in being happily alone~

Not the only one, i'm generally not as social as i appear to be online. When it comes to playing online, i don't do the whole random match with strangers thing and when i do, i'm usually the quiet fellow. Thats why i tend to enjoy multiplayer/co-op games only with people i'm familiar with or know myself and as far as co-op goes, i absolutely refuse to do it with a random stranger, period.

Then there's the frustration factor, playing with someone else can be immense fun (like that time i played Little Big Planet with a buddy online, i got my mother in on the action too and, well...it was the silliest fun we've had in a good while) but can also turn the best of friends into enemies, like when i play Resident Evil 5 (PC) with a friend and he fails the quick time events for the 20th time in a row and then blames it on his room being dark and he can't make out the key he has to press on the keyboard :P

    So yeah...

...eh..is it bad that that was basically my exact experience with MMOs? Like, thats what I did. I tried to play Mabinogi like a normal game, and it really wasn't working. And I didn't really want to play with other people.

I played WoW and Dark Age of Camelot.
Mwa ha ha... you cannot escape me! Before I got my job here, I worked for Mythic Entertainment -- and I began as a customer service rep on Dark Age of Camelot!

...Though since you're from Germany, you likely never had any contact with me (unless you played on one of the American servers). Europe had (has?) their own customer service reps.

Still... I'm everywhere! MWA HA HA!!

Anyway, in response to the topic... I actually can't stand MMOs. No, seriously... despite working as a CSR for one MMO, then a developer for another, I really can't stand playing a game that doesn't have an actual ending. I need to know that eventually, the fate of the world will wrap up and the credits will roll. And that my actions will actually have some PERMANENT effect on the world around me (people will live or die, towns will rise or fall, dialogue will change, etc.). In MMOs... that just doesn't happen.

I enjoyed working on DAoC and Warhammer, and I put my all into my job... but neither is a game I would choose to play on my own, as neither is a game with actual narrative structure. Warhammer comes close, since there actually IS a storyline you can follow -- but it's an "ongoing" storyline, with no real notable characters or surprise events to speak of (that aren't later undone when the entire encounter repops).

I long for the day when there's an MMO that can entice me... but so far, it just hasn't happened. Single-player games are my bread and butter, and likely always will be!

I played WoW for the free days I had when I first got it. Played it all day.

The minute the trial was over I dropped it and that was the extent I've played MMOs lol.

The only thing I've really gone online with as far as online RPGs go is Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Universe. MMOs generally aren't my thing, since I got a pretty big backlog to keep up with. I think I'm fine with playing single-player games for awhile anyway.
If there were no (developer/publisher) to complain about, we would need to invent it.

I used to play Ragnarok Online and WoW extensively (especially the latter). I put in like over a full year of actual game time into WoW. Yes, that is why to this day I never, ever touch MMORPGs. Other than the whole it never ends issue (something I also don't care for), I think they're inherently dangerous for OCD people. I also don't really care for playing with other people because then I have to go with their schedules and have to rely on them to always be on their A game (which you CAN'T count on).
