    Haibane Renmei
My favorite of YoBACONBACONBACONBACONoshi ABe's works. Oddly enough, I don't think I've ever really recommended this to someone before. I should start doing that.
My Literature II course for school was on anime, the writing for its screenplays, and the impact it's had, and how it's changed over the years. We actually would watch two episodes of Haibane Renmei in class itself as 'part of our lecture'. :D It was a pretty cool class, but startlingly intense, for what it was. Quickly weeded out the slackers who were there for the anime alone, though. XD

    1. CLANNAD / CLANNAD: After Story

I've never been able to relate more to any main character more than Tomoya, and that's because he was the epitome of me in High School. That is one of the main reasons that just honestly cements it as my favorite. Great music (seriously, I love CLANNAD's soundtrack. It's the only anime soundtrack I listen to), fun characters, and just an overall pleasant experience. Also I cried. Multiple times. :'(

    2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

It's the only shounen series I've really been able to legitimately follow these days, as I was actually interested in what was happening. I also just adore a lot of the characters. Seriously, Greed is just too cool. Such a bro.

    3. Princess Mononoke

My favorite Miyazaki film. I remember first seeing this on Cartoon Network, and just watching as the main character shot an arrow that completely ripped off some dude's hand. I'd never seen anything cooler than that in my life.

I could never get bored of this movie. It's just too good.

    4. Baccano!

I wasn't all too into Baccano! when I first heard about it, but after watching Durarara!, I gave it a spin. I was awarded with a great show. It's also one of two animes that I own on DVD (the other being Trigun... I would own CLANNAD, but it is expensive, so not yet). Also has my favorite dub out any dub ever, because it's just so well done and fits the series so well.

    5. G Gundam

G Gundam was another show I grew up with back in the day when it was airing on Toonami, and oh man, this show was awesome. Great fights, a hilariously good dub, and funny stereotypical Gundams (Seriously. Neo Mexico has the best Gundam ever) just make for wicked awesome experience. I really need to get my friends together to marathon this over a weekend or something.

    6. YuYu Hakusho

YYH was a great show that was driven by the success of DBZ and had a cool cast of characters. I don't know if it aged well, as I haven't watched it since it's Toonami run, but damn did I love it. The latter arcs also don't exist and you can't convince me otherwise. Not to mention you've got Kuwabara saying awesome things like "A MULBERRY IS A TREE, AND KUWABARA IS A MAN", and that's why he's one of my all-time favorite characters.

    7. Hajime no Ippo

Ippo was a show about a bullied kid who takes up boxing and it had a lot of wiener jokes. It was incredibly awesome. My only regret is that I still haven't finished New Challenger. It's also the only sports show I care about.

    8. K-ON!!

This is mainly for the second season, as the first is mostly just cute girls doing cute things, which is fine. However, the second season really struck a chord with me, mainly due to its focus on the impending graduation of the original four cast members. For some reason, I could really relate to not only Azusa, who was going to be left behind (as I had two great older friends during my Junior year), but also to the main 4, who had to leave her behind.

Iunno. It was emotionally touching to me, shut up.

    9. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

This show is pretty overrated, and I generally don't like to involve myself with the fanbase a lot anymore, but I can't deny the impact it had on me. This show is solely responsible for getting me back into anime, and showing just how cool it could all be. It's also one of the shows I generally recommend to watch with anyone who isn't really into anime in the first place. The movies are an absolute BLAST to watch with friends, both new and old to the series. It's so fun to just see people's reactions to the latter half of the series.

    10. Dragonball

The original Dragonball series was always cooler than Z in my opinion. It had a more well-rounded cast, and generally everything was much more... fun. I mean, I grew up to Z like a lot of 90s kids, but I generally grew to appreciate DB a lot more.

    1. Clannad / Clannad After Story
    - Not much to say that hasn't already been said. This show is just amazing.

2-3 (tied). 5 Centimeters Per Second / Millennium Actress
    - Two of the best anime movies ever created. RIP Satoshi Kon.

    4. Planetes
    - One of the best sci-fi stories I've ever seen, animated or otherwise.

    5. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni / Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
    - Absolutely stellar writing and one of the most convoluted yet well-thought-out mysteries ever presented.

    6. PoPoLoCrois 2003
    - One of the most powerful children's shows ever made. Also, I fansubbed it back in the day, so I have a very personal connection with it.

    7. Kodocha
    - Any show that can remain amazing for 102 episodes deserves to be on this list.

    8. Porco Rosso
    - My favorite Miyazaki film, and undoubtedly his most unique work.

    9. Hell Girl season 2
    - Overshadowed by Higurashi, but still one of the best mysteries I've ever seen in anime.

10-11 (tie). Mahoujin Guruguru / Ashta no Nadja (had to remove "i" due to filter)
    - An absolutely brilliant comedy and an absolutely brilliant adventure/drama/romance. Take your pick. (:

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention this. I've probably watched this anime more times than any other (well, maybe other than Totoro) and it is certainly one of my favoirtes but I never see it in anyone else's top 10.

I'll have to think about a top ten for myself though.

I loved princess tutu, I might have to edit that in in my own list since I wasn't thinking about that one.
