    Question Combats are way too easy (minor spoiler)

    OK first I should mention that I only finished the prologue so that must be why it was so easy, but will the difficulty significantly increase for now on ? Even the supposedly tough monsters (the ones you can chose to leave alone) and the last boss were just begging to get their asses kicked (the thief who keeps healing herself even though she already has 100% HP while her pals are almost dead...). Both characters were lv12 when I finished the prologue so I don't think I overleveled.
    I don't care about story in video games, I just want to shoot stuff

    Well, First Chapter, what us westerners are playing now, remains a bit easy throughout, although the later chapter bosses especially will push your knowledge of the mechanics a little. It's Second Chapter, the next part/game, that really assumes you know what you're doing and starts to throw things at you like bosses who can kill your entire party in one move if you're positioned badly.

    Well, SC is still a little nicer than the third game of this trilogy. SC still has a little bit of a learning curve. Not as much as FC, but there is one. 3rd, on the other hand, doesn't even give you a tutorial. It plays on the, "You should know this stuff already!" mentality. 3rd's first chapter boss is one of the harder bosses of the series. XD;

    Wonderful. I guess I'm gonna have to skip a lot of random battles because as good as the combat system is, if there's no challenge it's just ****ing boring.

    Also remember- you also just finished the prologue. That's considered the tutorial of the game. If you want to keep difficulty up, you will also want to turn off 'retry offset'. That's on by default, if I recall correctly.

    You've yet to have the enemies that will do major full field effects... there are some that will start hitting you with AT Delay- that's a dreaded status effect that is akin to 'lose a turn' and resets you on the AT Bar. Many of the enemies will explode when you're right next to them- if you've done all the Bracer Quests for Rolent, you should have encountered that already. This game is easier than the others, but it is teaching you the tricks that it will take later in the series on on a larger scale.

    Yeah I deactivated the retry offset option right from the start.

    Hmm, I'm not sure if having to play a 50 hours borefest is the best way to make want to play the sequels.

    I don't know- I personally found the game anything but boring, and it had one heck of a story with a cliffhanger to make me rage at it. XD; I will state this again- you just got out of the prologue. How many hours have you spent on it already? Did you do all the sidequests in Rolent? Did you grab the first Carnelia book while you were there? Did you think of finding a hidden item? Or maybe one of the hidden quests that are in Bose? Also, there has been a LOT of statements saying that the focus of this game is the story. This is an interactive story with an RPG thrown in.

    Nevertheless, I had the hardest time playing the game, for the first time, through the prologue and chapter 1. I think that Falcom understands the concept of balance and so forth better than most game companies. If you keep going at the game, thinking that it's the easiest thing you've ever played, it might actually start tripping you up at points. It's very sneaky in that aspect.

    Another thing, if you keep ahead of the curve, the game will be relatively easy, combat-wise. If you stay at, or just below, it should be just about right.

    i'm gonna try not to spoil anything but the bosses in chapter 3 and 4 (especially 4) you'll need to know how to properly install quartz so you can have earth wall and stuff like that

    I'm no expert here, but i went in knowing more or less what to expect since i played Tear of Vermillion and Moonlight Witch. But generally, yes, all the LoHs games i've played have been more easy then hard, except for a couple bosses in particular.

    Meh. Most regular JRPGs (as opposed to say, SRPGs) combat is basically something you try to rush through as fast as possible to get to the story.

    Indeed, one of the things I dislike about Trails is the combat system being more complicated than the Bandai ports. There you could get through combat with trash mobs in 30 seconds (if that). Here it drags out.

    And avoiding them isn't always easy since they sometimes run into you.
