The captcha isn't THAT annoying, but yeah, it's annoying. No worries, let's just see if that works while you guys create a report button.

I don't mind Captcha on registration, but having to decipher an image every time I post is a bit overkill.
Edit: optionally, setting it up to require the Captcha for the first few posts after registration and then pulling it past a number of posts would work too (assuming they give that much control over it).

Well, the thing is, they've had the report button probably since the birth of this forum. But it doesn't stop spam bots, and the mods aren't always available, either. Especially since they can't always be available: they need sleep too, and take note that they are all in the same timezone! It would be hard to really get that to work, at say, 1 AM in the morning or something.
Also, I don't like these CAPTCHA as much as I prefer the original: http://www.captcha.net/
Mmmm, the real McCoy! It also gets bonus points for the occasional hilarious combination of words. Or band names. Take your pick.
Is there a chance that you put that on the forums, Supermods? I can stand those more than the ones we have, really. XD

My logic is: if they can bypass the system when they register, they can bypass it when the post. So stopping them at the point of entry is the best bet. Like a nice big fridge to put in front of the door to keep the spam zombies from getting in and stealing our delicious bacon.
So yeah, having to solve a captcha for each post is certainly annoying, and doesn't seem effective.
La la la, 66 'users' banned. Captcha removed for posting (it wasn't deterring them at all anyway). Will consider other 'fridges' to push in front of the door.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.
E-mail verification. I was really surprised I didn't get that, actually.

A little late to the party, but I've seen some bots that can get through email verification, although that cuts spambots incidence by a large margin.
