Any possibility of liscensing and localizing old japan-only games?

Because if XSEED could somehow pick up GB and GC games or something, translate them, and release them on the eShop, that would be wonderful. Plenty of good GB games never got localized. I'm not sure if it's possible though, since I don't know if Nintendo would still give out the devkit for you guys to use to re-code the games, or if otherwise it'd be legal or possible for you guys to do it without a devkit as long as you had the license holder's permission.

So, this is more of a question for XSEED I guess. But if it was possible it would be a "I love XSEED!" moment, and if not, just an "ah well" moment.

Well, it's an interesting idea, but I'm guessing it would probably be about the same as trying to translate PS1 games and release them as PS1 classics. That is, you can't.

But that's Sony, and this is Nintendo. If they're willing to treat the cert as an "eShop game" instead of a GB/GBC game, and if whoever handles the programming can get hold of a devkit to do it properly... it's theoretically possible.

Between the combination of first party bureaucracy and some possible technical potholes, it seems extremely unlikely to me.

But I'm not from XSEED, so my opinion doesn't really mean anything!

Profits and licenses, those are the biggest issues here.

The game at the top of that list had better be Star Ocean Blue Sphere! I'm still disappointed it was never remade for the PSP.

Wont happen for numerous reasons. Even if Nintendo would allow it and the rights are easy to track down and license, XSeed would have to code it on their own, and they don't employ any programmers except some contract work for Steam/PC releases.

The only way I can see that happening would for a Japanese game would have to be put on the Japanese Virtual Console, to have little to be translated, license to be vailable for cheap and to have the original developpement team available to do programmation work for the localization. Sound unlikely to me.

Little fixe because in Europe there is an import PS1 section in the store since a few months, Arc the Lad trilogy which wasn't released in Europe during the PS1 era is available in the European store. Has for Nintendo there is some import game available on their Virtual Console on WII (Ogre battle 64 and Sin and Punishment).

While I'd LOVE to see this happen, as there's so many games on older platforms that we missed out on, I fear the technicalities and first party red-tape described earlier would be a major boon to such a project. D: And surely, someone out there would complain about getting older titles digitally rather than work on new titles physically, or something. xP It IS a crying shame though, as there are some real gems out there.

Well, yeah, SCEA are definitely the BACONBACONBACONBACONs of the crew. But that's what's relevant anyway given that XSEED is an American company.

And the VC imports are the only reason I figured there was any possibility at all.

I agree it'd be kinda cool of they did this. But the chances of this actually happening is probably like .000000001%. I know.....I'm sad too.
