How's Ys Origin as the first game to play on the series?

As I've started playing it this week, and I'm thinking I'll finish it before I play Felghana, is it a wise idea to start with that game? Should I just stop and start Felghana instead? How about if I'm willing to get those Ys PSP games on the Vita, should I wait until I get them before I delve into Origin?

Ys II is really the only "bad" place to start, since it's a direct continuation of Ys I.

Origin is a fine starting point, and if you play Chronicles next you'll probably notice all kinds of connections and references.

There's the whole "remember it's different" since it all takes place in the tower with no world map between dungeons, but most of the games available are going to play differently (Ys 1 & 2 with the bump system, Seven with the party and rolling instead of jumping).

Yeah, pretty much what Chaosblade said. Ys Origin isn't the best representation of what the series is like overall... but then, no game is, since the Ys series varies so much from game to game. If you're enjoying Ys Origin, I say keep at it!

I did enjoy playing with Yunica, I guess I'll finish it before I move on to the other games, maybe I'll get the story better that way. Thanks Chaos and Tom!

Yeah, as much as I do like Yunica, her story is really the least interesting and the least important of the three.

No, the worst story is by far the totally predictable, cliché, and uninteresting Hugo (let's start the flaming others' opinions war )

Just kidding, it is good that you are enjoying it since Ys games are great, but not much like the average RPG, so that some people turn their noses on them.

Wait, three? Oh, I thought I could only select either Yunica or that mage.

There's a third one unlocked after you finish the game. Which is the best of them all!
If there were no (developer/publisher) to complain about, we would need to invent it.

And playing with Claw is important because he adds a lot to the story (Yunica and Hugo stories are interchangeable).

I've heard about him so far on Yunica's playthrough, I can't wait to meet him.
