Since I am chinese, japanese shouldn't be too hard for me. I plan to get steam prepaid-card for them soon.

Well hello fellow Chinese! I admit Kanji is kinda similar to the Chinese Characters but can you really understand that?

It look a lot similar to the traditional ones, but unless it mean something else.花 (Hana) and 花 (Hua) is the same right?...Unless Hana mean something else.

Lemme check...yup, flower is one of the meanings of Hana. Are all characters similar? Never checked fully.

    Hm, here's an interesting explanation:

Many Western people may be thinking that Japanese Kanji and Chinese Kanji are exactly the same. They look very similar.
However, they are very different to Japanese kanji in structure.

Japanese Kanji is not the same as Chinese Kanji

Although the Japanese adapted Chinese characters into their langauge, they disregard the original meaning in Chinese.

Yeah, off-topic, don't think we should really get our hopes too high here, so let's wait for an official PR announcement from Falcom.

I had heard a rumor of Falcom considering that, but I never verified it beyond a rumor, unfortunately.

Japanese kanji are deviated from Chinese characters. I can't read Chinese, but when we get spam at work, I can still recognize a lot of the kanji. Even with the game titles, there's a lot of similarity from Japanese to Chinese: 空の軌跡 vs 空之轨迹 for example. While the characters aren't exactly the same, there are still some similarities in them that I see, which I assume have something to do with how Japanese has evolved from the Chinese characters?

I have Taiwanese friends who are able to play import games from Japan with very little loss of meaning, actually, due to their heavy usage of kanji. So while it may not be an exact science, it should definitely help for reading and understanding at least some of the game's dialogue.

If you'll ever get a PSP or a PS Vita, avoid them. If you're never getting those two, get Ys I & II.

It just dawned on me that you were talking about Zero no Kiseki when you mentioned knowing Chinese.

Although you probably WOULD be able to pick up a lot from the Japanese version of the game, bear in mind there actually does exist a Chinese translation of it on PC as well. It's apparently not the easiest game to get running... but still, if you can get it running, it'll be entirely in a language you know!
