IF for some strange and crazy reason D3Publisher of America doesn't localize this game: http://tinyurl.com/c5nn4bj
I think Xseed should try and get it out in North America sometime in 2013 for a few reasons:
1. The series got its start on the PS2, so it would be a "Welcome Home!" of sorts: The Chikyuu Boueigun and The Chikyuu Boueigun 2 were part of D3Publisher's The Simple 2000 series of budget games in Japan and while US gamers never saw these two localized, gamers in the UK got them (as Monster Attack and Global Defence Force). PS2/PS3-only owners missed out on EDF 2017, as it was an Xbox 360 exclusive, so this game with its improvements will give them a chance to see what all the fuss is about.
2. There's NO other game like it on the Vita. Seriously. If you've never played an EDF game before or you've only played EDF: Insect Armageddon, you're missing out on a pretty awesome and surprisingly lengthy non-stop action experience chock full of giant ants, spiders, spaceships, robots and more to blast as you battle to save the Earth from extinction above and below ground (hey, I can write halfway decent copy when I like something as fun as this).
EDF 2017 had 53 levels, 171 different weapons, five difficulty levels and it was ONLY possible to net every achievement (well, there were ONLY six) by beating the game five times. Granted EDF 2 and the also never released in the US EDF 2 Portable (PSP) are still the superior experiences in terms of number of levels, game difficulty and weapons, but it's probably too late to consider localizing the PSP game (unless it's going to be a download-only deal).
3. Pale Wing is back! In adding the character to EDF 3, Sandlot is addressing a major issue fans of the second game had with the third. Her jet pack and energy based weapons were sorely missed (and even the developer has acknowledged that they didn't have enough time to get her into the 360 game)
4. Four-player co-op should be a blast: ESPECIALLY with each player getting his or her own screen on their Vita. No split screen means a better frame rate and possibly more stuff on screen (it sure looks like it based on the trailers).
If I'm not mistaken, Xseed has previously localized and published the D3 game RIZ-ZOAWD (as The Wizard of Oz: Beyond The Yellow Brick Road), so it wouldn't be the first time they've done something cool for gamers who like niche titles...
