XSEED might release Ragnarok Odyssey DLC for FREE!

There will also be free DLC for the game, with the possibility for paid DLC down the line, though there will be 80+ quests available beforehand.

Now here’s a bit of a shocking twist—XSEED may not be interested in taking their customers for every dime they’ve got. They might even provide what is premium content overseas for free in the U.S. I know, I don’t know what’s going on either. There are currently three pieces of downloadable content available for Ragnarok Odyssey in Japan, and XSEED’s reps told me they are considering providing them gratis in the U.S. release. Now, they may still charge for future pieces of content; but in the short term, it’s a nice gesture.

For all I know as of yet, those "three pieces of downloadable content" were the expansions released as patches for the japanese version of the game, but I may be wrong and this will be indeed delighting news!

Perhaps instead of being completely free it's LE/new purchase fodder? Redeemable codes in the box, and if you buy it on PSN you just get the DLC straight up.

I'd hope not, because those three chunks of new content is important, not optional like you'd expect most DLC to be.

They're charging for it in Japan? Seems like the perfect sort of thing to pack in with the game as codes. Just from a business perspective at least. Buy the new copy with $10-$12* of DLC in the box for $40, or buy the used Gamestop copy for $32-$35 with no DLC + other questionable Gamestop stuff.

*I'm totally making up numbers here

But who really knows, maybe it would be free for used copies too. I'd kind of question the business decision there though.

That's the problem, XSEED PR told people that they were considering release DLC for free, but they never said which piece of DLC. From what I know, the PR and the guys are talking about the expansions, that were free in Japan and released through patches. Thing is, if I'm right, XSEED will release those costumes and extra items for free, because those were the only paid DLC in Japan for the game.

Oh, I haven't really followed the game at all (since I'm not really into Monster Hunter, and as a result, similar games) so I didn't know there were patches or free updates, the topic made me assume it was all paid DLC.

If it's patches/free content, it would probably make sense just to have an updated master and have it all there on day one without any extra downloads. Especially considering you have to pay for PSN bandwidth, IIRC (not that XSEED could even comment on that).

Yes, I'd think it'd be on the game card day one, seeing what XSEED did with Solatorobo, but it'd be nice to have a clarification of sorts before the release, if they really mentioned with the press.

Well the japanese version has all the expansions free but other dlc is payed for just like the standard MMO format. If we have to pay for the Expansions that would make me a sad camper but I would still get them anyway
