I agree, there really hasn't been anything overtly argumentative recently in this thread as far as I can see.

Either way, as much as I (and most of the rest of us here) don't like it, moving towards DD-only is the direction that the video game industry is going in. Game companies are just doing it gradually so that they don't alienate too many consumers at one time. They are also giving their consumer base a chance to get used to the direction that they are going in. Currently, about 2/3 of the gaming public still prefers physical over DD, but that's down from a year or two ago, where 85-90% preferred physical.

I think here that the only games that will still be physical copies will be all those big selling franchises like CoD, BF, FF etc. While the niche games will be the ones to go DD-only because those franchises can make tons of cash without much problem and so on and it looks like those days aren't far off.

I still think there is value in CEs tbough. Since NISA's online exclusives sell out every time, it shows that things like that do well in limited numbers. I just hope that in a more digital future, offers like that will still be around.

I think they will be. Small publishers are well aware of the hoarding tendencies of us consumers of theirs, so I'd be surprised if they did away with CE packs completely. However, I think when the industry eventually goes DD-only, the CE packs will include a download code with the physical collector's items rather than a game disc.

I prefer digital mostly because i like the convenience and lack of clutter.

This is even more pronounced when you have a portable system

Also i feel the cost savings to developers will allow them to take more risks, port to more platforms, LOCALIZE games quicker (though this doesn't seem to be happening!!)

Not to mention the money goes directly to the developer without the risk of used games sales. Also many Devs pass the savings onto the consumer. Games have never been sold at such a wide price range or sold quicker and cheaper.

I understand and appreciate the benefits of DD, and I'm not as against it as many of the other members of this and other forums. My main gripe with it, especially with a system like the Vita, is that the memory available isn't particularly large, and it is extremely expensive. With how much memory most of the better Vita games take up, you're not really saving much money if at all, even if the DD games are a little bit cheaper. If they are a lot cheaper, then maybe it is a different story, but they are similar in price to retail in general at this point in time.

Plus most of us here, myself included, have hoarding tendencies and prefer to own something tangible when buying a game.

I'm aware that this industry will eventually be DD-only within the next 10 years, and I think I'm OK with that as long as some games still get released as collector's editions with physical goods and a digital download code.

    Oh you silly hoarders

You do make solid points on the memory pricing. Also for those of us that are deal hunters... we are seeing many physical games dropping in price far fast than their DD counterparts. At least in the console space.

Its like totally backwards from PC and Mobile where Steam drops prices constantly and quickly and Mobile is just cheap to begin with.

PSN is starting to figure it out. Microsoft and Nintendo though....

Yeah, I hope the trend of decreasing prices of Steam and mobile proportions spreads to consoles as well. Plus, I hope memory gets a lot cheaper too. I was able to upgrade my PS3 HD from 60 GB to 1 TB for $115, if they had something similar to that for Vita, DD becomes a lot more palatable to me.

It is nice to not have to carry around a bunch of little cartridges for a portable system.

Downloading them and then install them will take too long. I am a very little patient guy, I rather just pop the babe in and start playing. Also I hate standing outside McDonald or StarBuck just to download DL game. That freaking MGS 3Ds demo take BACONBACONBACONBACONing age to finish downloading.
