    phisical vs. digital

with the new vita out and no games worth my dollar, this subject becomes more prominent,
with a physical copy of a game you have the investment of something you have and can sell but often plagued with load times longer then golf tournaments
but with the changes of the newer systems the digital copy seems the way to go but lacks any value after perches but tends to lacks much of the load time , as the psp reaches the end of its lifespan, we see our beloved umds becoming paperweights,
is there no hope for those that paid top dollar for the collector editions on release dates, can companies do something to help? like dual digital and physical copy's?

ild like a view on this from both the gaming community and a game companies' employes

Xseeds seems small enough that i can git a direct answer on this and not some lawyer written pamphlet that's confusingly long

thanks for your time and input

Wow, this argument again? If you don't mind, I'm staying away from this as I'm pretty neutral on this issue.

Though here's my opinion on this, the majority of the attention these days are on the big selling franchises like COD, Battlefield etc. So the indie/niche games are quickly falling behind and some of them are DD only as that is the only way for them to make money without all the extra costs of physical distribution.

As much as the TC might have good intentions, I agree with you and I think Tom should keep an eye on this topic and lock it as soon as it starts to burn.

Yeah, me too, you never know who'll pop up whenever this argument comes up like that 'other' thread.

No doubt this thread will have people spinning their wheels and creating hard feelings again.

I'm with Jassman and Shiz on this one and will also be staying away from this topic. I didn't check the forums as much back when the great DD vs Phys debate happened but I've heard nothing but horror stories about it and I'm rather glad that I wasn't around and would like to stay out of it again if it happens again. So with that in mind I'll say my small piece and be on my way...

I support good games; period. I love physical products just as much as the next guy but if DD is the only way that I will be able to play a game that I want to play then so be, it I don't mind. DD is much more cost effective, I would assume, in most cases than releasing a physical release and love it or hate it with today's market the way it is niche games like the one's that we here all enjoy are really hard to turn a profit on in general and even harder if you factor in manufacturing costs. You just can't expect a game like TitS to go up against CoD or Battlefield and come out okay, even though TitS is leaps and bounds better then the entirety of all the games in both franchises combined IMO, it's just not the type of game that the market is looking for. I'm just glad that I get a chance to experience these games and appreciate all the hard work and risk that companies like Xseed take on to bring us these wonderful gems and if the only way to get these games is by them going DD then so be it I'll be there with my debit card ready.

Uh for me the Vita seems exactly the same since its cartridge based so a digital download will still be the same as a physical copy as they are both on a stick. I really don't care what format it is unless the game has big expansions then a physical copy would be better until them memory sticks go down in price!

Here are some topics that have addressed the issue and will give you a good idea about where XSEED stands and community opinions here.

Hopefully they satisfy your curiosity because for whatever stupid reasons, it's an issue that gets too out of control here and end up going in circles.

This is a great response and it should be stickied or something.

wow didn't expect shell-shock on this forum

you've all brought up good points but except the cost effective references,
physical copys are much cheaper after just a few months, it tends to take 9months to a year for dd to drop price, and the cost of internet on top of dd

i wasn't intending to lock the topic to the vita, more as it was the example, many games are locked or removed from the dd to never be sold again or brought to new systems
phantasy star portable 2 for example, with pso2 being brought to the vita, there is no need for it to come to vita (outside pal)

and the limitations of dd with region & account locking, and low internet speed can really cripple this beyond usability

as for my actual opinion on the subject, if i die my physical copys go to my family to do with as they see fit, my dd accounts die with me...
