The Dreamcast was light years ahead of its time.

We are constantly praising Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo for their awesome consoles and games, but everyone seems to forget that they aren't really doing anything special.
Everything that we see today was already in place more than a decade ago. It started as a dream, but is soon became reality and it offered all the things that we take for granted today. From awesome graphics to varied gameplay to online play, the SEGA Dreamcast had it all. It started a golden age in which people were told to dream and that those dreams would become real. Unfortunately, the vision didn't last very long. Still, it left a legacy that hopefully will not be soon forgotten.

    Remember the Dream!!!

    TAKE THAT WII U!!!

Dreamcast is the only console I will outwardly show bias for. Superior arcade -> console ports, and some of the most original titles straight from Sega.

PSO v.1 was my first exposure to online gaming, and it ran great on that 56k connection. XD
Skies of Arcadia had DLC, but it was free.
Unique games like Space Channel 5 and Jet Set Radio.
And not to mention great imports, like the Sakura Taisen series, Segagaga, and much more.
Oh, and the ONLY version of Grandia 2 that is relevant (The PC and PS2 ports are garbage).

There were/are still games released for it, way after its "death" too. In fact, there's a game coming out for it at the end of the month!

The machine had a pretty nice design too. I freaking love that machine.
If there were no (developer/publisher) to complain about, we would need to invent it.

SEGA is redoing Jet Set Radio in HD and hopefully they won't stop there. I would LOVE to see HD versions of both Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia

    Sega Dreamcast enthusiasts unite!!!
The Dreamcast offered everything that we see today well before anyone else. Shenmue was and still is a cinematic masterpiece. I also believe that is has the last relevant version of Sonic.

Dreamcast was the first system with built-in online functionality. It had DLC for PSO and as VMU minigames, a screen in the controller (WiiU's older brother), the original XBox derived its controller design from it also, which later resulted in the much loved 360 controller. So yea, it was a pioneer.

It had a lot of great games released in its short life too, and though many of them have been ported to other consoles the DC versions often remain the best versions.

Grandia 2 (PS2 verions is glitchy and has the realtime cinematics rendered as grainy fmv)
Skies of Arcadia (Gamecube version added a few extras, but textures are more compressed and transparency took a huge hit)
Sonic Adventure 1-2 (2s chao gardens became barren and uninteresting the the Gamecube version)
Crazy Taxi 1-2 (afaik the only versions with a fully intact soundtrack)
Power Stone 1-2 (PSP versions are lower res due to its screens limitations)

    Only version available on disc:
    Jet Grind Radio
    Shenmue 1
    Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram

    Still exclusive:
    Ooga Booga
    Confidential Mission
    Red Dog
    Super Magnetic Neo
    Alien Front Online
    Outtrigger
    Cannon Spike
    L.O.L.
    Zero Gunner 2
    Segagaga
Typing of the Dead (only console version released in english)

I've owned a 3DO, it's not a good system. The build quality was fantastic, controllers had some interesting aspects (built in headphone jack, daisy-chain for more players), but the games were for the most part really bad. Even the games that were lauded as being its best exclusives I found to be poor.

If I recall correctly, I think both of these also took a hard hit in the sound quality department as well.
