I think XSEED could answer that. Some people say it's related to SCEA/SCEE and not the publishers/developers, but a few upcoming PSP games are being advertised as PSVita compatible at launch.

3DS. Don't have a PSP or Vita, and I'm looking for more variety in my 3DS library.

3DS, mostly cause it's what I have. Looked at the price point on getting a PSP or Vita, and given most of what I play is already on the DS heading towards 3DS I can't really justify it.

That and... you seriously can't play everything PSP on the Vita? I'd have to see what loses out... but if stuff like the Persona series, Disgaea and other kickass stuff that was for the PSP isn't supported on the Vita, that'd kill a lot of my reason for getting a sony system. Same reason why I don't have any plans to pick up a PS3, the new ones don't support the PS2 classics I'd like to play for myself sometime, while if I get a Wii or Wii U (as soon as I figure out if that has worthwhile play value over the Wii for me) I also get access to the entire Game Cube library. Just... weird to hear that a system wouldn't be at least one system backwards compatible.

Davar: Sony has to make PSP games compatible with the Vita, but they've already made the vast majority of the PSP's library compatible, and I don't think you have to worry about the games you listed, since they pretty much prioritized popular titles. The only fairly well-known PSP titles I can think of that aren't Vita-compatible just yet, in fact, are our own Brave Story: New Traveler (which is understandable since the game is no longer technically available on PSN) and Aksys' Hakuouki (which is a lot more surprising).

Even those will most likely be Vita-compatible sooner or later, though!

Also, yes, PSP output is component, not HDMI.

I have an AV output jack -> HDMI converter so in this case, the output isn't component, actually.

I will be getting the PSP version because I don't have a 3DS. My girlfriend has one but I hear this game is ~60 hours long so I'd rather play it on my own system and whenever I like. The on-screen map doesn't look very annoying thankfully.

PSP for me. My brother has a 3DS but borrowing it from him when he has a number of games to finish in there. Is going take a while for me to even finish the game since he will have to finish his first.

It's not HDMI either. Using a converter with a lower quality signal doesn't increase the quality. Sure you're using an HDMI cable at the end, but the PSP isn't outputting HDMI quality
