It's certainly dark, that's for sure. And I'm not just talking about the visuals either. From the brief movie, you can easily see that they're taking the story into more mature territory. Sure, previous Tales of games have tried to incorporate themes of death and betrayal, but Xillia 2 is looking to go even further.
Have you had a chance to play Tales of Xillia?

No see they always look like they're going to, then they're released and it's not. But this may be a good thing; I, personally, don't think Tales can handle the themes well.

Really? I think it looks really boring and uninspired. :U

I've read that Xillia is the best Tales game yet. Would love to see either (or both) come to the US. Would definitely buy both.

I prefer something boring and simple over something ridiculous or overdone. But I tend to like simplicity in general. I mean, he DOES have a tie, that's something!

Can't speak for the girl, I don't really like those characters anyway. Reminds me... Lymle. *Shutters*

Where did you see that? Because I've read the exact opposite. I have yet to see someone say they actually legitimately liked the game, the best impressions have just been "okay." And nobody wanted a sequel (in fact, more people were hoping for a Director's Cut of Xillia so it might actually end up good).

There's an import review on RPGFan that speaks very highly of the game.

I'm just going to assume that you're referring to this one:
    http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/Tales_...lia/index.html

"Tales of Xillia is a shining example of the path mainstream JRPGs should be going. Instead of integrating elements of western game design poorly into their games, they should be celebrating the unique features they have while progressing and improving their basic gameplay."
