I'd just have you play as a Villain Protagonist. I think I know how that would work though. To summarize a setting lets go with this. Lets go to a medieval Tales like setting (Think Tales of Graces. City of Barona). There will be a coup d' tat. Your protagonist is part of that but he's just a unimportant soldier to the higher ups of the coup. He and four other people enter the castle the day before the coup starts and take most of the treasure but the guards notice when your already done. The other people leave and you attack the guards at your leisure since the king is going to die anyways. You kill the royal family yourself and leave that one traumatized survivor for the heck of it. Your actions took most of the night and by now the coup has started. You meet up with the other people with the money hidden in a carriage and you escape in all the confusion but to really make an opening you had already planted some bombs before the coup had started. So when the countdown finished the castle blows up killing soldiers from both sides and to really reap the reward you take the carriage for yourself and flee like hell.

Is that a new story? The rest is somewhere in my notebook.

Hope will never die because in our times of despair, hope is the warmth that we all have that we can share. No matter how much life seems to hurt, stand up and never give up. Fight it and come back VICTORIOUS!!!

Whenever our souls feel in pain. We intertwine and make a miracle. The miracle that is our love.

I prefer a story where you don't have a clear cut good guy or bad guy. The "villain" is just doing what's in their (or their people's) best interest, and from their perspective you're the villain, threatening them.

And that could also include things like political or social motives, greed, thirst for power, etc, but nothing to a spiritual level a lot of JRPGs go to ("we have to kill the god!," etc.) or anything like that.

Well, I try to find inspiration from various sources since I'm more or less a writer. Though I have experimented with the ambiguous morality I sometimes wonder if you will ever see a game that puts you in the villains shoes. Also I put villain protagonist there but he isn't really completely a villain. I like trying to include a good mindscrew in my stories. Its more like the further you go the more you question whats really happening. The protagonist sure isn't a hero but he isn't a complete villain.

I also don't like including gods or anything related to them in my plots. Sure they can be mentioned as a faith or something but nothing more than that. I think the best way to make an impact is to stick as close as humanly possible.

those anime image on jrpgs the mostly fault is the games aimed for teens that is why some reviews of the game become lower because of They reviewed it with adult view but not on gamer's view
thus the game not sell well only teh games who defined their name for gamers like FF series or Tale Series

    for example Neptunia of GameSpot(2.0)

reviewed well known rpg reviewer(actually a girl) she is just feministic idealism + her gameplay review more like played it on 30mins(+ i sense a adult feeling not more like a gamer)

It's been done but not really for the whole game (as far as the plot is concerned). I think part of the problem is people automatically equate villain to undesirable, but sympathetic villains and protagonists that just so happen to desire goals opposed to what most people want, would I think be pretty effective if done well. The problem with this as far as JRPGs are concerned is that most of the characters tend to be teens and whatnot anyway, which don't really make effective "villain protagonists" for what would amount to a long RPG. At least not when the vast majority of JRPG teens strive for hope, peace, and whatever other naive aspirations you want to attribute to them.

I have a great idea for a plot along these lines but lord only knows if I would ever take the time to go make a game that would incorporate all my concepts.

If you don't mind me asking mind sharing at least one concept?

I just think the villain protagonist can work but yeah for most of the people to give him much of a chance he'd have to rather sympathetic.
