I think I'll have a look of the gameplay on a video before I consider touching this game. I am always hearing great news about this game but I never bothered checking up on it.

My expectations of this game is pretty high so I might go down to my local game store this week and pick it up on the way.
It's a great game, and the gameplay is very puzzle/exploration-oriented, and there doesn't have death lurking on any corner, but depending on your choices, you may have signed your death certificate for in a couple of hours, just like a few deaths on Corpse Party.

Yo, been a while since last time I came here and it will still be a while. Saya no Uta gives me the chills though I like thats its coming. Also 999 sure is devious I thought I had hidden time limit in the prologue but there isn't one. I took my time after realizing that. It comes back later in the game but I won't spoil. Also 999 has a lot of mindscrews but all the endings good or bad all happened since well you'll get to it eventually.

I just visited a page of 999 in TvTropes. (Without touching the spoilers)

This sounds like the kind of psychological, survival, puzzle, visual novel, point and click game I've been searching for. Makes me really sad for missing out a great game back when it was released.

Oh, did you think the game was going to keep the 9 hours as part of the game mechanic?
That would have been a cool feature but would have been stressful to the player, forcing him/her to speed through the text.

If I am reading correctly, time limits are only present to some puzzles?

'Interacting and choosing which door to go through are the most important factors in getting each ending.' Is what I'm getting here, am I right with that? Or maybe there are some important key items vital to achieve certain endings. Who knows?

"Both". In order to get one specific ending, you'll need to make certain choices, besides choosing the specific doors as well. And you owe yourself getting this game, I just got it now because I promised Aksys I'd get the game if they announced Good People Die.

Well, no sorry for misunderstandings but you don't have a time limit for the entire game I was talking about the prologue puzzle and another puzzle you'll fly into later. The player is in a situation of immediate panic and danger and the sound effects aren't helping anyone. So during those puzzles I thought I had a time limit but in fact there isn't one.

Also due to something you guys will find later. All endings no matter if good or bad all happened to the characters. Its a landmine you guys will see later. No more spoilers just wanted to clarify just in case.

I just finished the "normal" ending, not the worst, but not the best. That one... Just made me fall in love with the game. There's not a living soul that got that ending and isn't looking forward to the next game. The way the different endings play out, the plot, the twists... It's to show not to underestimate any japanese developer, and with Chunsoft's resumée, this is my favorite game from them.

If you have a DS, it doesn't matter the model, just get 999. It's worth the launch retail price, but it's even cheaper to get one these days. Get it, just get it and endure through the normal ending, if you feel like the game isn't for you. Use this flowchart if you will (slightly spoilers for different endings), if you want to get the normal ending first and give up on the game. Just do it.

So, Zero Escape follows the Normal ending?

I appreciate the flowchart but I think I will do a blind playthrough on my first run.

On the same subject, is the flowchart a necessity to finding the other endings? Is it that hard to get certain ones? I would use it if there are no multiple savefiles. The frustration from getting the same endings over and over again is just... *shiver*

No problem. You have possibly saved us from spending hours searching for answers on the internet. Thanks. ;D

There are SOME endings which come with more frequency than others. I think the sub ending is a bit of an offender for that. I got my first 2 endings on blind plays though, and I know people who got "good" endings their first go 'round, so I only think you'll need the chart once you're going for your last endings. There's nothing "impossible" about it, but there's a few events you need to see to trigger the true end, so you can't play once and be done. [not that you'd want to. ;D]

The good part is though, most of the endings all run about the same length, save for the true path being a bit longer IIRC. I never felt "cheated," even after a bad end. Plus you can just fly through already read dialogue in subsequent plays, cutting down length if you're just going for the rest of the endings.

Not exactly like Corpse Party, they are spiritual sequels and the second game is actually called "Virtue's Reward", Zero Escape is the name of the franchise itself.
