I have a feeling that if any of these bills actually become law, the unceasing uproar and potential social unrest will cause them to repeal it within half a year.

i dont think so because where is the outrage over the NDAA which gives license to kill americans anywhere in the world including home to the executive branch without any warrants or what have you...

i think its too late for the ppl to wake up. they are too busy watching american idol and sports to actually be outraged.plus, many americans are following partisan politics instead of realizing that both parties are to blame for the economic situation of the country and its needless wars.whatever 1984 or technocracy here we come!

I dunno, the internet probably got Obama elected. For all the good that did, right?

Indefinitely detain without trial, not kill. Not that it's a whole lot better, honestly. That's not really THAT big of an issue though because it's blatantly unconstitutional, and if and when it ever hits the Supreme Court it should be repealed.

Despite the arguable freedom of speech implications, online censorship legislation seems less likely to be overturned.

Well, hate to break it to everyone, but it seems they already got it pushed through, with apparently even worse alterations!

Previously, CISPA allowed the government to use information for "cybersecurity" or "national security" purposes. Those purposes have not been limited or removed. Instead, three more valid uses have been added: investigation and prosecution of cybersecurity crime, protection of individuals, and protection of children

Does this include all the anime 'children' too?

Also, I feel like Annon is going to do something BIG regarding this. Prepare for cyber warefare!! No, seriously... Too bad it'll look cooler in movies when you hear that phrase.

So far, White House has called for a veto. But I don't know if Obama has the balls to stand by his words here.

Pedo laws and others that "protect children" are intended to just that - protect children, so in theory no. I'm not sure if there's precedent, but if a case went that way, I doubt it would ever be overturned and end up setting a new precedent.

Thing is, is that some anime/manga etc have been having problems in different countries. I believe Unicef was even backing up the notion to protect and not to portray anyone who LOOKS little in suggestive situations, even if it's a drawing. That's why I wonder (and worded it in a joking matter) if fanart/manga/anime/game art will be censored because of it.

Dont forget that the Senate has to vote on the bill now, it goes to the White House if it passes in the Senate.

I just want to say that not all U.S. politicians are for Cispa.

Well one politician was campaigning to outlaw porn, who knows how far politicians will go.

Just for your information here is a petition that was attempted YEARS AGO. to ban anime.
