Is it still worth getting a PS2?

I've been interested in getting a PS2 for some time now, but recently, I've been thinking it's not worth it anymore.

It just seems we already have most of the good PS2 games either in an HD collection or on PSN, or even as a port on the PSP or Vita. And it seems like it's only a matter of time before the few that don't have an HD Colection/PSN release/Vita port do.

As it might seem, I'm leaning towards a no, but before I bang the gavel and put this thought completely out of my mind, I want to know what you guys think. Is there some completely awesome niche title that will never see the light of day save on the PS2? Or am I good just owning a PS3 and a Vita?

But it is on PSN, and from what I read, it looks better and has almost no lag. Though I admit, having a physical copy of it is tempting (I know I can just buy the game without the PS2, but that's something I can't quite justify in my head).

PS2 should be worth it for Radiata Stories and Soul Nomad alone. ^_^

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I mean, we already have God of War 1/2, Ico, Shodow of the Colossus, Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire, Disgaea 1/2, Mana Khemia, Persona 3/4, Final Fantasy X, Tales of the Abyss, and probably some others I'm missing.

And there are other titles that will probably be added on PSN or get an HD collection or a Vita port (Final Fantasy XII, SMT games, Kingdom Hearts, etc.).

It just doesn't seem like there are enough titles exclusive to the PS2 that don't look like they'll be playable on the PS3/Vita.

I will give a deeper look into these two titles. Honestly, if I can find 10 solid titles that are to my tastes and don't look like they'll be ported, then that'll be enough for me to get a PS2.

I probably should've mentioned, I'm not into racers/fighters/GTA. I'm mostly into RPGs, action adventure games, games with a really good story, and awesome unique games that change things up. I hope this doesn't cut the list of good games down by too much.

I own a bunch of games that'll never be re-released due to music issues. Specifically all my Dragon Ball games.

Thank you Mr. El Plagarismo Kenji Yamamoto

PS2 has an awesome library. It's absolutely worth it since most games won't get re-releases.

There are a lot of terrific PS2 games now available for PS3 and Vita so realistically, you are fine with just those. If you can afford to get one and can spare the time (and decency and humanity) to play hilariously outdated , but perhaps still charming~, games then... let's go deeper *3*

Here is a stupid list of games I have either played or watched others play that are unlikely to be rereleased. I went quantity over quality big time here in hopes that you could find at least 10 that, after some research and whatnot, you think you would enjoy.

I would put this under the spoiler tag to save space but we no longer have one, so I bumped down the font size instead. Oh well!

Particularly Goofy but Fun Games :N
    - Katamari Damacy
    - Chulip
    - Shadow of Destiny
    - Shadow of Rome
    - Raw Danger
    - Disaster Report
    - Mr. Mosquito
    - Robot Alchemic Drive
    - A Dog's Life
    - Ape Escape 3
    - Whiplash
    - Destroy All Humans
    - Space Channel 5

    (j)RPGS
    - Radiata Stories
    - Valkyrie Profile 2
    - Rogue Galaxy
    - Xenosaga trilogy
    - Suikoden III, V, and maybe IV.
    - Wild Arms 3, 5, and maybe 4.
    - Soul Nomad
    - Makai Kingdom
    - Phantom Brave
    - La Pucelle
    - Shadow Hearts, SH Covenant, SH From the New World
    - SMT: Nocturne, Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, DDS2.
    - Dragon Quest VIII
    - ... starocean3 8(
    - Tales of Legendia
    - Tales of the Abyss (assuming you have no 3DS. And for the record I didn't like this game at all but a lot of people enjoy it so it's worth looking into I suppose!)
    - Romancing Saga
    - Sakura Wars ~SO LONG, MY LOVE (this game is hilarious)
    - Mana Khemia 2
    - Atelier Iris Eternal Mana + Azoth of Destiny
    - ... Ar Tonelico 1 + 2
    - Dark Cloud 1 + 2 (everyone calls it a JRPG so whatever)
    - .hack + .hack GU (lots of games in these series, and I don't have any experience with them but they get decent praise?)

    Survival-Horror
    - Fatal Frame 1, 2, 3. I know 2 is getting a remake, but we may never see it. 3: And it's for the Wii! Maybe wait a while and see what is happening with this series if interested.
    - the Resident Evil Outbreak games were fun in their own ways... PS2 also has Code Veronica X (but the Gamecube does too, as well as many many more RE titles.)
    - Silent Hill 4. Arguably 2 & 3 as well, since the HD collection took out some atmospheric things that are part of the experience. I have no experience with Shattered Memories or Origins, but they exist.
    - Siren
    - Clock Tower 3
    - Haunting Ground
    - Rule of Rose

    Others
    - Hitman! There was a trilogy release on the PS2 and they can now be found very easily and very cheaply individually. Silent Assassin, Blood Money, and Contracts.
    - Time Splitters 1, 2, Future Perfect
    - Red Faction II may... still be fun... maybe.
    - Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life

Okami has a good chance for a PSN release, but you never know.

One (three?) of them being Ratchet & Clank.

Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and MGS jump to mind.
