    Foreigners

This isn't a hate thing but more of an historical inaccuracy the game has or if not someone please correct me.

The foreigners looks are British right? I just don't really understand why are they talking about them as the foreigners when the Dutch with few Spanish traders from the Philippines and American people where much more prevalent during that time. The Dutch even founded Nagasaki just saying.

I'm not really sure but I also think the British didn't have much contact with Japan until the Anglo-Japanese alliance that happened around 50 years later.

I'm not trying to say the British shouldn't be there just saying its rather weird having them during that time period.

Let's just say, the game isn't exactly the most historically accurate work of fiction you'll ever see.

I had a LOT of fun with the foreigners, though! In the original Japanese, they of course all speak hilariously broken Japanese littered with random English. So in the English... they all speak hilariously broken English. (: It doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you think about it... but it very much captures the feel of the original language, and has thus far been a big hit amongst my coworkers.

Can't wait to see what you all think.

I'm glad that is how it is being done actually! Are you doing a lot of translating for this one then?

Well, not anymore (it's done, save for QAing), but yeah... I translated the lion's share of the game, with my boss (Sakura Kozo on here) picking up the rest.

This was, without a doubt, the most challenging translation project I've ever worked on, though. This game's dialogue is... very, very complex and nuanced, to put it lightly. (:

Thanks for answering the question Tom.

Isn't doing it this way a bit common? Outside of leaving the broken Japanese as-is, I can't really think of any better way to translate that sort of thing, so I wouldn't say it doesn't make sense, personally.

Well, by doesn't make sense, I mean it doesn't make sense that native English-speakers visiting Japan would speak in broken English. (: But yeah, it's the only real way to translate their dialogue accurately to its intent, I'd say. And the result is pretty damned funny!

This game is actually full of great quotables and excellent screenshot fodder.

A bit overconfident in our own work, are we?

Nonono, I'm not saying it's full of great quotables and excellent screenshot fodder because of the translation... I just mean in general! The game doesn't take itself very seriously at all, so there are lots of great opportunities for silliness and such, no matter what language you're dealing with.

Though yes, I am confident in my work, as well. (:
