I think everything that was added to the PSP games was also backported to the PC version, but the only thing I know of that was added was the bit of VA. Depending on how XSEED's licensing for the VA was handled that may or may not be in a Steam version.

Not sure what else, if anything, was added.

Apparently 3rd's script falls right between FC and SC, but the game itself is actually shorter than either. I've read that Zero and Ao have scripts about as long as SC, but I don't know for sure.

Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky SC is Falcom's only game that is not on PSN. This is because of the game being over two UMDs, and requiring to switch UMD's as you move about Liberl. In order to make it a digital only release, it would probably require reprogramming the game completely to make it fit into the required UMD size limit.

This IS possible, because Zero no Kiseki is about the same size as SC, and is using a new compression utility that Falcom developed... then Ao no Kiseki is significantly larger than Zero. Both of these games are on a single UMD. ...but this may mean that Falcom might have to do the programming, since I don't know (I don't think) XSEED has the resources to do something of that sort.

If you want proof of the script sizes, Falcom published three books, each of which having the script to both the main scenario and the side quests printed in them. (this doesn't include NPC's or items, or other sorts of text, as a note.)

I've posted a photo of the books next to each with their page counts: http://twitpic.com/909qkw

Only the voices were added to the PC version of FC. There are other things that were added that weren't to the Win7 PC version. These are things like the difficulty modes, and so forth. I also think the retry offset that made battles easier in FC is a PSP-only thing, as well. (Don't quote me on that, I don't know for sure off the top of my head.)

It gets more interesting when you get to SC and 3rd, however. There are entire playable characters added to the PSP version of SC, new items, difficulty modes, and so forth.

Then 3rd has several major additions to it (along with something removed as well, but that's a long and spoilery story)- mostly in the form of new quartz and whatnot.

That kind of sucks, I can't believe the PSP version of SC and 3rd would have that much more. I wonder if that would make it harder putting the psp translation into the steam version or vice verse. Are the extras in the PSP versions significant? I know the amount is, but does it hurt much not being able to have the other playable characters and whatnot?

Which means that characters like Julia and Mueller won't make it to the Steam version of SC if it ever gets released...

Well this just ruined my day...I really wanted to use Mueller.

We probably won't get voices either and probably some story elements if we get a steam version only.

That sounds pretty significant...... I mean, I guess I'll still be happy to get the game at all, but man.....

Extra incentive to learn moonrunes I guess...I really really really wanted to use Mueller. This really blows. I hope XSeed can convince Falcom to backport all of this stuff.

At the moment, according to XSEED, the word has been that Falcom's been extremely busy to help with localization efforts. Considering that they have two games, an unannounced third game, and are the supervisors of a fourth game... and who knows what else is going on in the background...

Nevertheless, at least you get to play as that character in 3rd.

I wish I'd known I was going to like the game SOOO much when I bought it. Other wise instead of DD I would have gotten the premium edition! > maybe if I'm loaded with cash someday I'll double dip and get the Premium Edition! But as of now, I regret it so much!!!
Me too, buddy. Me too. I just borrowed mine from a friend. :/

Steam is a digital distribution service for PC games. Basically you own the games digitally, its kind of like how PSN works. There is a steam faq in the Video Games board over here, that can help you get started but really...its just download steam, install it, go through the store, find games you like, buy, and play them. The only difference is that you have to play them through steam, as in you have to have it run it (and for some games be connected to your steam account via the internet).
Oh. Sounds a little of a hassle, if you ask me. XD
