Well, I'm really not even looking for a job in web development. By the time I got my crappy degree I was pretty sick of it.

I did pretty much all the work on one of our "final projects." Being the only one who knew any real PHP meant I ended up coding a BACON-load of crap to make a custom CMS, as well as the main site since it had to be based around it. So while I spent all my time doing that everyone else wasted time browsing the Internet between making some images here and there and eventually using my CMS to put together the site content.

Doesn't even help that I'm not very good at it. I suck at design, and my self-taught PHP/MySQL has a lot of holes. Never learned anything like Objects/Classes.

But that's getting off topic. Job hunting in general does suck. Congrats on pulling through, hopefully I'll manage to find a better job eventually.

Jesus, that sounds ridiculous. It sounds like you had a lot more of a knack at developing than I did however. Technology and methods change so fast that the way I learned to custom make a site is old news, everything is pretty much done in Wordpress now (which is pretty self-explanitory) I've also discovered that a lot of places use custom software so you wouldn't be using stuff like Dreamweaver, where I am now the only skills I use from my degree are sometimes making logos and and editing images, and then just laying out the pages. However it's still my first week and their are different levels of sites that need created.

My experience is all in building stuff from the ground up in Notepad++ Color-coded code!

I'm a horrible, backwards person who avoids inefficient GUI based stuff. Dreamweaver's code view is nice as long as you have an updated version since it has those nice auto-fill options. Never touched Wordpress so I don't even know what that's like.

And dealing with images, design, and all that is my biggest weakpoint. I'm not an artistic person at all That's where a lot of those jobs seem to be headed though, so if you're good at it that works out well for you.

Yeah, this job market's the pits. I've been looking for something better for almost 4 years now. I'm starting to think along the lines of SIN that it really doesn't matter what you know but who because I run into all sorts of folks in high places who...well, shouldn't be. And then they wonder why the work environment is so disliked.

Anyway, good choice on the Falcom wallpaper. I go with Corpse Party myself at work (specifically http://www.corpsepartypsp.com/images/wp4-1280x1024.jpg).

I feel you there, however having a degree can't hurt, I wish you guys the best though. Nice wallpaper, I was looking for some and I normally wouldn't have picked this, but it looked too cool on two monitors!

I don't know, I almost feel like it makes me look like a sucker. "What, this person got a degree in Web Design from a private/for profit college?" Hindsight is 20/20 though, I definitely would have gone for something else if I'd known how things were going to end up. Probably networking, or hell, even 3D modeling and animation. At the same time, it makes me extremely hesitant about going back to school since I spent thousands and thousands of dollars only to end up working retail.

My wallpaper is a lot more boring. It's just Saturn, same thing on both monitors since I'm too lazy to figure out how to put a different picture on the second monitor using Windows 7. Was easy in XP.

Yeah, I can't say I've ever done it in 7. Nothing a quick google search wouldn't figure out I'm sure. And no matter what, you don't look like a sucker. If you go for a decent job and have competition for a position, a degree will stand out among people who don't have one. PM me if you're interested at all, I know a talent agency that likes to represent designers and things like that, I know you said that you aren't the most creative person (not sure if you're being modest or not) but if it interests you at all, it couldn't hurt to try, They have locations in most populated areas, and if they don't, I'm pretty sure they'll represent with just a phone call. PM me if you're interested!
