Last I heard a Vita cost about $160 per-unit to produce based purely on the parts included. So yes Sony probably can reduce the cost, but the sales drop off hasn't been as sharp as it was with the 3DS, and E3 could boost sales too.

Every system has a post-launch drop off in sales and drought of new titles, this is all very par for the course.

The PS Vita need better games, not a price-cut.

Yeah, I know, but that doesn't give it an edge over the smartphone market. Dedicated handhelds these days really, really need to position themselves as offering experiences that you just can't get on a smartphone. Beyond having exclusive franchises, I mean.

I see what you're saying, but I dunno... I guess I'm just a fan of comparative economics. I mean, whenever people complain about the price of gas around here, I'm always like, "dude, have you ever been to England? Or how about Japan? Gas prices here are freaking CHEAP!"

I suppose the 3DS has indeed one-upped the Vita in terms of cheap memory, but to me, that always felt more like Nintendo undercutting themselves than Sony overcharging. I actually feel the same about the 3DS itself: I think he original $250 pricetag was totally fair, and that Nintendo's basically lowered the price far more than they had to.

I actually agree with you. 3DS wasn't selling all that badly given it had one of the worst launch lineups in recent history and absolutely nothing to follow. It seemed odd they wouldn't ride out the $250 price point at least until the end of one holiday season. Monster Hunter, and Mario would've still brought up sales, and sold well.

Vita's selling about 8000 units a week in Japan right now. The only time 3DS posted worse numbers than that was the week before the price cut went into effect.

Ah, I was looking at NA numbers which aren't anywhere near that low (about 200k last month).

Either way it's still too early to make any judgements on the platforms long-term success. If Sony completely botches E3 then it might be time to start worrying.

I've read numbers somewhere that shows that the 3DS sold almost as much as the Vita on Q1, but there's the fact that the Vita was released during that period, so it should have, in theory, a bigger sales number.

I'd be more worried about TGS. Japan has been the only consistent country to produce handheld selling software largely because western third parties don't care about handhelds.

Sony now has a Super Smash Bros. clone, a Mario Kart clone, potentially a Monster Hunter clone. They'll just need a Dragon Quest (Eichiro Oda RPG berieve) and a Pokemon clone to complete the set.

I want to jump in on this topic, since Ragnarok Odyssey has all the attention after last night's presser...

While we expected it because of the 'XSEED' on the trademark/company info for the game, this still makes me very very excited, as it's coming from Tak Hirai's studio. I might be, dare I say it, more hyped for this, personally, than I am RO. (Sorry, guys! --I'm probably still getting RO, though. xD)

Hey floof! Glad you could join us, though weren't you working?

Anyways, anything you can say about Orgarhythm?

So an RTS with Pikmin influences and rhythm elements? Sounds pretty interesting on the paper at least. The graphics look very unappealing at this stage but that isn't something that turns me off personally. I really wonder if they can sell this game to the average American consumer though. Let's hope for a hit!
