From what I gathered in years reading this kind of stuff, I'd say the most expensive part of a localization is the licensing part. Let's say Namco US abandon the Tales series and Namco JP decide to let another american company localize those games, chances are companies like XSEED would never get nowhere near because the licensing price would be huge for them.

That 500k would've went to producing 7000 collector's editions UMD packages, as well as tweaking the code of the game and giving it English audio.

Uh...no. Still tending to the fresh scabs healing from the last go-round. This is not an easy undertaking for console games, and even less so for dying/dead consoles. IF we do it again, it will be with a much higher profile game and/or after CoH II ships digitally.

Seems he's learned his lesson. This just wasn't going to be feasible without a high profile game and a more realistic goal. Putting the money towards an actual localization and not just a LE would also help.

For a game like CoH 2, I think the amount they hit (over 90K), was pretty darn good. The lesson he should have learned, and I'm not convinced he actually has learned it yet, is that he shouldn't be using Kickstarter to "make money". 500K for improvements and a limited number of special edition boxes on a game that was guaranteed to get a localization anyway? Sorry, but that's not what Kickstarter was made for.

Err, Kickstarter was made to fund indies who couldn't get funding any other way. Do you think a publisher is going to back a localization and reversioning of a PSP game in 2012? Let alone make 7000 extravagant collector's edition sets?

I hope it at least served as some publicity. I'm sure a lot more people are aware of the game now, and might, at least, check out some vids of gameplay or something.

Games Beaten in 2013: 8: Retro Game Challenge, Corpse Party 2U, Code of Princess, Dark Souls, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Atelier Meruru, Yakuza: Dead Souls, Liberation Maiden

That's all they did it for, the goal was unrealistic from the get-go and they knew it.

Well, there are genuine reasons to dislike him, such as how he constantly slams other publishers because he thinks their localizations aren't as good as the ones Working Designs did, because they won't localize games that will bankrupt them or the fact that he takes credit for work on games that he wasn't fully responsible for. Even ex-WD employees dislike him, so people aren't hating on him "just because."
