You can filter certain stuff so some friends can't see it, so my guess is that they want to make sure they're seeing everything on your page. Don't wanna half-BACONBACONBACON an invasion of privacy!

There is that point. Although a lot of people make all their info available to friends, if you have access to the account, you can see everything. At least in my case though, if it's kept out of their reach, it's because they really don't need to know. :P

Wow, this is completely unethical. I have a Facebook that's set to private, but it's not private because I have anything bad posted there. It's because I don't want complete strangers to see my profile. Only friends and acquaintances have access to it, and that's how it should be.

Someone at a company I'm being interviewed for, at that point in the hiring process, is a complete stranger, so I don't want them to have access to my private information. I added plenty of people I've worked with as friends on Facebook, but that's because I've worked with them and have gotten to know them personally. I even have former bosses as Facebook friends. Also, I don't give ANY of my internet passwords to ANYONE. Even though a Facebook password is much less important than, say, an online banking password, I don't want anyone other than me touching my personal profile.
