Each of the three characters do play through the same dungeon areas, though since the skill-sets differ from one character to the next, different approaches are often needed to overcome the same obstacle. As an example, remember the Devil's Corridor from Ys I? It's back in Ys Origin, and if you're playing as Hugo, you can get through it exactly the same way you did in Ys I. But if you're playing as Yunica, the solution is a bit more obscure -- and if you're playing as The Claw, it's COMPLETELY different, and much more intense. So it's certainly not the exact same experience from one character to another... but admittedly, it is fairly similar, and you are expected to play through the entire game with each character in order to get the true ending. I'd recommend playing through with one character, then playing a different game, and coming back later to play as the next character. Leave some time between playthroughs, and the dungeons will never seem old or repetitive.

Regarding 360 controllers, the game does not natively support them, but as long as you have the right drivers installed, you'll still be able to use them. Button config is a breeze, and can be done in a few seconds prior to starting the game -- the hardest part is just finding the right drivers for your computer, which also shouldn't be too big a deal.

And Chelli: Each character has his/her own story. Once you've chosen a character, you can't switch mid-game -- you're playing as that character through to the end. And while the basic storyline of the game is the same in all three scenarios, each character "remembers" it differently, so the individual events that occur within the tower vary quite drastically -- even to the point where certain characters who live in one scenario will die in another, and vice versa.

Interesting... Guess I'll have to get a Steam account. To this day I still think I haven't made one do to lazyness or because I was caught up on something else. I'm going have to write this down on a paper and put it somewhere I always look at because I know I'll forget if I don't write it down.

I think it's more like the Yunica and Hugo stories are non-canon, the last one is though since it actually fits with the lore from Ys 1&2.

And windows supports 360 controllers natively, or at least Seven and I think Vista. It shouldn't work any differently than any other controller. I don't think the analog triggers are detected, but everything else works as you'd expect.

If that's the case, then yeah, all you'll need to do to use a 360 controller is configure the buttons. Easy as pie!

As for the storylines, there are aspects of the story that are never seen by The Claw, but are contained in full in Yunica and/or Hugo's scenario. As such, I personally think the three storylines are kind of like three different interpretations of what happened that day, from three different perspectives -- with The Claw's scenario being the one that "historians" generally believe to be closest to the truth. Again, very Rashomon-style.

I might be overthinking it, though.

Well there's a number of PC games where I go to the control setup and try to use my 360 gamepad as a standard controller, and it's not recognized at all when I try to map the buttons, even though a more bare bones Logitech gamepad is.
It seems to me that either a game supports the dedicated XInput library, in which case using the 360 gamepad is basically as simple as plug and play, or it doesn't and then it's a hassle to get the 360 controller to work with it.

I've already played Origin (and Ark of Napishtim) with a 360 controller. So it definitely does work, all you have to do is map the keys in the game. But yeah, there are some games (only older games as far as I know, like 90s games) that don't support it well.

Before you ask me why, isn't Reah reason enough for playing it?
