Corpse Party The Anthology: Sachiko’s Game of Love (PSP)

Corpse Party, perhaps the most macabre game for PSP, is doing a 180 with Corpse Party The Anthology: Sachiko’s Game of Love Hysteric Birthday 2U. Team GrisGris is taking the horror series and making a comedy game.

Sachiko’s curse over Heavenly Host Elementary weakens around her birthday and in this game her fate has been reset (although she still looks ghastly). Corpse Party The Anthology begins in the school’s auditorium where students are called together for a culture festival where the romantic comedy theme is announced and thus begins Sachiko’s Hysterical Birthday.

Corpse Party The Anthology has a new cast of characters like Satsuki, a female classmate who always carries a bag of potato chips with her, and Aiko, who is friends with Sachiko. The game is designed as a simple visual novel where you choose how the story proceeds.

5pb rounded up a team of writers to create storylines including: Teru Achi from the manga series Room No. 1301, Kaya Kizaki from Dragon Crisis, Gou Zappa from Shin Koihime Musou, Chabou Higurashi from Memories Off, and the original of Corpse Party. Team GrisGris is supervising the game’s scenario.

Corpse Party The Anthology: Sachiko’s Game of Love Hysteric Birthday 2U is slated for release on PSP later this year.

So 2U, Book of Shadows, and this? Did Team GrisGris feel like they had to keep up with Falcom in the "Let's see how far behind we can keep XSEED" department?

The original 2U name set off alarm bells, but it seems somehow the end product is even worse than I feared it was going to be. Following up Book of Shadows with a romantic comedy? Really, 5pb?

Leaving aside whether or not they're going to do another "Ah ha! Have a bonus plot chapter" like BoS, I just don't see how they could possibly make a whole game out of a concept like this. Much less one fans are actually going to want.

This may be like the spin-offs for the Chaos;Head or Steins;Gate franchises.

Huh, interesting. Will wait to play it before I judge it! They haven't let me down yet, and I loved the demo for BoS.

Wouldn't you already call some of the interactions between Seiko and Naomi romantic comedy? A bit one sided, but some of it was pretty funny. Its what makes it all the more creepy when bad stuff starts happening to characters you start to like. Heightens the impact and all that.

I suppose you could, but Book of Shadows already had that kind of stuff, and in higher quantities than the original, but they didn't feel compelled to say it had love comedy elements - it was just accepted as part of the story and character development. It's some comfort that they're saying the game's core essence will still be horror (never thought I'd say that, this is the only horror title I actually like), but still.

It looks like the question in my last post was answered anyway, the Game Info (Japanese) blog is saying the game will have an anthology structure (well obviously) with 8+1 Chapters. Not 9. 8+1. So it seems pretty likely this'll be another Book of Shadows deal where there's one chapter on the end that moves the plot forward while the rest are side stuff. That's just my speculation and not confirmed, but that's what splitting the numbers says to me at least. If they're really going to drag out the rest of the story across a bunch of games with only a chapter dedicated to actually advancing the plot so they can get away with as many as possible then they're really taking their fans for granted.

Guess all we can do is wait for more information, but revealing the game like this doesn't exactly leave me bursting with hope.

Wow, it seems this is indeed the 2U sequel. The full title being:
Corpse Party THE ANTHOLOGY Sachiko's Game of Love - Hysteric Birthday 2U
コープスパーティ THE ANTHOLOGY サチコの恋愛遊戯 Hysteric Birthday 2U

It's funny that it's focused on her birthday, considering that it'll be next month on April 25th. A part of me thinks this is the gaming format of the manga anthology, Corpse Party: Coupling x Anthology.

This is 5pb milking Corpse Party for as much as they can. Really just stay with horror and just add romance or some very light comedy when something bad will happen just two seconds later.

Takeshi: Don't worry, I swear I'll protect you!
    Emi: T-Thanks...
Takeshi: Don't worry it will be fine. *Walks outside the classroom and the door mysteriously closes locking him out and Emi in* WHAT!?
    Emi: TAKESHI!?!?!
*Yoshikazu shows up behind Emi then she turns around*
    Time for an escape scene!!!
Hope will never die because in our times of despair, hope is the warmth that we all have that we can share. No matter how much life seems to hurt, stand up and never give up. Fight it and come back VICTORIOUS!!!

Whenever our souls feel in pain. We intertwine and make a miracle. The miracle that is our love.

I like the idea of a horror romantic comedy type thing...Just because something is morbid does not mean it cant be funny or people cant fall in lurv....I wach alot of horror flicks from black and white to current day(read them even to) and alot of them mingle those aspects, even if the "funny" bits lean more towards funny morbid I get it anyways, so for me the idea is not so odd but I suppose thats because it is my favorite genre of book/movie/Tv show and ive seen those aspects played out well and sometimes unwell ...I still favor Bride of Chucky to this day even though I think it could have been more gorey...I could go on but needles to say I would definantly like to be able to buy the game since I think it would be quite interesting to see how it playes out...
But I am still more interested in a release of BoS first...So im not going to hold my breath over the mention of this game yet

Guess this is just to please the fandom and to another extent, draw in the fanservice crowd.

5pb is known to milk their franchise but it still makes me cringe knowing this is happening to Corpse Party.

    Edit;

I'll buy it if it means more chances of localizing the Corpse Party main games.
