We're talking up to 1680x1050, though, so it still looks gorgeous, even if there are some tiny black bars along the sides of the screen.

    That's really interesting, I figured Falcom was going back and doing the work on these. Since widescreen patches already exist for the Napishtim engine games, hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult getting it worked out in the Steam releases.

    So since you have a programmer (I don't know if you hired them or are just contracting them in a case-by-case basis) and they're adding achievements, I'm wondering if it's going to be possible to have the game in Valve's contests during summer/holiday sales. Adding game content, however minor, is probably out of the question, but adding in some sort of contest achievement to the existing game may be reasonable. And getting your game up in the contest list would give it a TON of exposure. Though maybe not much more than being a daily deal...

    Getting ahead of myself there though.

    System requirements are extremely low. Unless your PC is like 8+ years old, you should be able to run these games. And Origin plays pretty much like Oath in Felghana.

    And yes, it has controller support.

    Xseed you should get the PC license for the Legend of Heroes VI Trilogy
    releasing the Second Chapter on Steam would help you and Nihon Falcom figure out a way to resolve the disc changing problem that the PSP version seems to suffer

    As per the specs, here they are straight from Falcom's site.

    Ys The Oath in Felghana
    OS = 64bit 7/Vista/XP Windows
    CPU = (Or more recommended PentiumIII/1GHz) over Ⅲ / 800MHz Pentium
    HDD = free space 1.3GB or more
    Memory = Or more [7/Vista] 1GB, more than [XP] 512MB
    DirectX = Since DirectX9.0c
    Monitor = More than 640 × 480 resolution, HightColor or more (65,536 colors)
    Graphic = 3D accelerator over VRAM32MB, corresponding to the later DirectX9.0c
    Sound = Sound function that corresponds to the later DirectX9.0c
    Disk drive = DVD-ROM drives

    Ys Origin

    OS = 64bit 7/Vista/XP Windows
    CPU = (Or more recommended Pentium4/1.3GHz) over Ⅲ / 1GHz Pentium
    HDD free space 1.8GB or more
    Memory = Or more [7/Vista] 1GB, more than [XP] 512MB
    DirectX = Since DirectX9.0c
    Monitor = More than 640 × 480 resolution, HightColor or more (65,536 colors)
    Graphic = 3D accelerator over VRAM64MB, corresponding to the later DirectX9.0c
    Sound = Sound function that corresponds to the later DirectX9.0c
    Disk drive = DVD-ROM drives

    Considering these are straight from the Japanese Versions, there shouldnt be that much change in the specifications

    Anyway, I was going to refrain from asking these questions until release. But since you are open to questions, I will ask.

    1. Are both games going to be region-locked? I know there are stories of games on steam being region-locked. Better for me to ask now.

    2. Will this steam version of Oath in Felghana have VA and the retry/one level below feature that was in the PSP release, but not in the original PC version.

    I would like to add-on that I still believe there is still a possibility for the widescreen patch to be applied manually for the reason that only the directories are changed.

    If I were a betting man, I'd bet that's their current plan.

    It's not so much a problem with the game structure, but with Steam itself. Steam doesn't really like patches due to how it works, it's possible that if you apply the widescreen patch Steam will detect that something is wrong with the modified files and redownload them to "fix" the game. This is a feature intended to prevent files from getting corrupted, but has that unfortunate side effect of breaking patches/mods.

    Edit: Sometimes patches do work though, so we could get lucky. For example, there is a slowdown patch for Commandos that works with the Steam version. Unlike a widescreen patch, that slowdown patch is pretty much required to play the game since it runs so fast it's unplayable on modern PCs.

    Ys Origin uses the same game engine as Felghana, so the controls are very similar. Top-down 3D action with jumping and slashing; no rolling, no teammates. There are different playable characters and each one has their own story mode. It was the last game made with that game engine, and in my opinion the best one; compared to Felghana, the graphics are higher-quality and the different abilities are much more balanced.

    Steam is a program & store used to distribute games over the internet, and you can download the client here: http://store.steampowered.com/

    People are allowed to input mods/patches manually for Skyrim which I have done with no problem, I dont see why its not possible for this case unless XSEED added more security on the games launcher. Even with Skyrim with mods and patches if you ask steam to verify your game cache, steam doesnt go haywire.

    File path for most steam games: Program Files ->Steam -> steamapps -> common
    or
    steamapps -> "your profile name"

    I guess the best thing is to wait and see.

    Nah, not unless Steam automatically region-locks things somehow. We're certainly not adding any sort of locking to the game.

    No, I'm afraid not. This is the original PC version, as-is, with the only additions being Steamworks features.

    I assumed "no" for #2, but did not hurt to ask. Thanks for answering.

    And Ys Origin! Surprised so many of you guys missed the "ValveTestApp" at the bottom of that leaked screenshot, as that's what it is. Ys Origin has no release date or price just yet, but it's coming, and it's going to have all the same bonuses as Felghana (achievements, leaderboards, cloud support, etc.).
    Wow that's a fantastic news, I haven't played Ys Origins yet. Are you going to use the fantastic translated script of "I figli di Gaucci"?
