I'd be pleasantly surprised if Xenoblade's US release outsold the Japanese release at all, much less with just preorders. I'm not entirely sure what the Japanese sales are though since I haven't seen anything for 2011, but I heard OpRainfall actually caused a bump in Japanese sales. May or may not be true, or meaningful.

I think it has the potential to do pretty well, word of mouth is definitely there. Nintendo isn't doing much to push the game though, and I don't shop at Gamestop so I don't know if they're doing much either.

The reasonable move for Operation Rainfall to take for sales will be waiting for April's NPD charts.

The EB Games by my place has a big wall set up for it. Poster with lots of placeholder cases. The guys also were pushing it a little the last time I was in there. Seems they're trying to push it at least a little.

Gamestop (and EBGames, to that extent) is doing all the marketing, NOA isn't moving a single finger.

    I wish, then I'd get a Vita for $250 instead of $400.

The way to get around these issues is usually to have someone you trust buy and forward it to you so you don't get international mark up.

That's where the customs usually step in and charge 100% on top of the Vita's full price.
