I like 5cm/s better, personally, but they're both great.

Its two biggest offenses are excessive exposition (a pet peeve of mine, particularly noticeable when the brother is speaking with his tribe's leaders and they're randomly telling him their history for no logical reason other than to ensure the audience hears it) and melodramatic statements that just sound completely unnatural (particularly noticeable during the beginning scenes when the girl and... Shin, was it?... are having their little picnic).
I can't hate the movie, though, because the world design is amazing and the creature designs are absolutely stunning... but Shinkai needs to stick to realistic lost love scenarios in his writing, as I just don't think he's very good at fantasy dialogue. (:
A bit late but 5 Centimeters per second is a very good movie. It's more than capable of making you feel exactly how you imagine the MC feels if you've been in similar situations. And that song at the end just drives it home. It's also very beautiful which certainly helps
5 Centimeters Per Second was one of the most beautiful animated movies I have ever seen, if not the MOST beautiful. I loved it, it was really good ~ ^^
I honestly couldn't pick between the two - 5/cm and The Place Promised in our Early Days. I think that they're both an emotional adventure, that they both did their job to a T.
Pop 'N Fresh
5 Centimeters Per Second is slow paced and deep.
I woud say its not for beginners or for people that just started watching anime.
It woud probably be better if you have watched anime for a while and then pick it up because then you now what to expect.
For example i liked Action, and comedy in my earlier anime days and woud only watch those types of genres, but eventually decided to experiment watching other genres and i ended up liking it.
I think the movie was great but i do understand it woudnt be evryones cup of tea though and its hard for beginners to get in to unless you have a love for slow paced stuff.

I watched it before, it was a bittersweet experience.
It was good overall, but the ending just made me somewhat depressed. I guess that is just me though, since from a more critical standpoint, at least as far as I am concerned, it was well done. It starts up slowly, but it is worth watching.
I liked the drawing style a lot..... however, the feeling after watching it was strange. I wouldn't suggest this anime as an introductory anime to people who are unfamiliar with an anime genre...
