    Kony 2012

There's something about hearing a child say that he's better off dead than alive that pushed me into creating this event.

Do you know who Joseph Kony is? Not many people do. I didn't even know who he was until I watched the above Documentary about how he abducts children and turns them into child soldiers and sex slaves.

Usually when I see something like this on TV or the news I think 'What I am supposed to do?" Most of the time you feel there is nothing you can do at all.

But there is something that we can do.

    As the documentary explains;
Uganda has U.S. advisers and technology to find Kony to bring him to justice, but the U.S. is going to cancel the mission to find Kony unless they know that people care about it, and they're going to cancel it soon.

Our mission is to make people care, to make people know.
That is how we can help. This time we can do something.

On April 20th, 2012 at sundown people all over the world will be painting the streets red with Kony's face; so people can know the man who is taking away people's childhoods and innocence.

We don't even need to be all together and meeting at a certain time on that date.
it works better if we're in smaller 1-10 person groups spread out around the city.
The more varied places we hit, the better the impact.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS AN INDIVIDUAL.

EVERYONE CAN DO IT AT THEIR OWN SPEED AND ON THEIR OWN SCHEDULE ON THAT DATE. JUST GET YOURSELF SOME POSTERS EITHER ONLINE OR PRINT THEM YOURSELF/AT A PRINT SHOP.

Many think that this won't help, or that it isn't worth it.
If 50 of us do it and nothing comes of it, all the same.
But what if it works? Isn't it worth a try?

And by the way, Kony is #1 on the international criminal court's worst criminals list.
Would you let Hitler go under the RADAR?

    Let's bring Kony some infamy.

    Please watch this video

People don't want to know nor do they want to care. We're are all to occupied with our work, school, facebook and so on to really devote any of our time to those in need of help.
For instance, when asked about the number of orphans in my country, so-called representatives said there were none. Apparently, my country has no abandoned children to speak of which, of course, is a complete lie. Does anyone mind that there are thousands, if not millions of children, living on the streets and in orphanages? Some do, but most are too busy to be bothered.
In order to help those around us, we must first realise that there are much more important things than providing for our own stomach and updating our facebook account.

Spreading information about this is important, but I recommend that anyone interested in donating to Invisible Children check out this post discussing some problems with the organization.

Anyone uncomfortable with donating to IC can check out that same blog's list of alternate charities operating in central Africa.

Well, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do but they say that even one man with a strong enough resolve can change the world. I'll do my best over in my area. I wish you luck on your guys side.

I'm just gonna raise awareness from my classmates and people I know so they can further that and tell the people they have on facebook to support it. I'm a messenger. Painting the streets and all that is too much on my part but hey I'm just a cog in the grand scheme of things. At least let us try something.

My co-working was watching one of their videos at work today and I saw most of it. I thought it was kinda fishy about how they had a "kony kit" with bracelets and stuff lol. Thanks for the link it was educational.

This is such a complicated issue. I want Kony and the LRA to be stopped of course and I'm glad this is getting attention, but I don't think this video/Invisible Children (creators) really propose the best solutions. The awareness is great, but past that... subjective gray areas. I'm not trying to be a cynical butt about everything but I think it's important to think about and research a group's cause before standing beside what they're doing and what they intend.

I want these issues to be raised, yes, but I don't want people going "yeah, yeah let's have them arm African militaries they'll go wipe out the bad guy" without at least thinking about the consequences, or other possible solutions, what happens after, or without thinking about anything else at all which is what it seems like a lot of people are doing. It's so easy to watch the video, feel bad, order your kit, share the video, and feel like an enlightened social activist and really good about yourself and the world and everything but it's not that simple. :c

Unfortunately, that's probably what's going to happen. This has been happening for a while, but not many people knew about it until now. Now everybody knows about it, and most of the people who order the kit probably didn't and won't do any further research before they decide to become a "social activist" on this. Raising awareness is great, but something like this seems almost more like brainwashing the masses as opposed to informing them and encouraging them to do their own research.

Edit: My friend just posted this on Facebook. It's very appropriate:

I agree on that the video did have a lot of gray areas as you might say. It would be more wise looking more information up but its rather bleak that many people will do that. Many people fight for self interest and if Joseph is gone some remnats will remain and having left over guns for the more "ambitious" people will just cause even worse trouble. The bad thing is no one can really suspect what a person will do next. We just need to find a way for people to make their own suggestion as what the plan of action is instead of choosing the predetermined one.
