1.) Wild Arms
2.) Shadow Hearts/ Koudelka
3.) WKC (story was crap, but I've spent hundreds of hours on MP)
4.) Digital Devil Saga
5.) Persona
6.) Dragon's Dogma (really enjoyed that, excited to see a refinement in the 2nd iteration)
7.) Lost Odyssey (where's the sequel MS?!!! Was the only reason I bought a 360 this gen)
8.) DCUO (love the combat for an MMO, but I'm not much into superheroes)
9.) Dark/ Demon Souls
10.) Trinity: SoZO
If we were to go waaaaay back, I'd add Legaia 1/2 and Legend of Dragoon.

Tom must put his now
Fallout 2
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
These are the games that opened my eyes to the genre. Of course, this was back when WRPGs weren't all about headshots.
Onto our JRPGs:
Final Fantasy X
Persona 3
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Dragon Quest IV
Wild Arms 5
Grandia III
...which is only the case in like a couple of recent games. I can only think of Fallout 3/New Vegas and Mass Effect (with the stat-heavy first game's combat being by far the worst) currently. Hardly 'all' of them, and they still have heavy RPG stuff in them, although it might not just be what you associate with the term 'Role-Playing Game'.
hmm this is so hard, i love turn based combat so this puts me on a tight spot lol. i guess these are my favourite ones (no specific order):
SMT Persona 2&3
TitS
Disgaea 2&3
FF Tactics
FF VII
Xenogears
SMT Devil Survivor 2
Dragon Quest 8 (<3)
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Fate/Extra
Pokemon series (its a given lol)
