Ys seven is the longest in the series
Games finished in 2013 : Thearythm FF - Pokémon B2 - Tales of Graces F - Miles Edgeworth Investigations - Fire Emblem Awakening - Spirit Camera - Hakuoki - FFVIII - Ar Tonelico II - Riviera
Okamiden - Rhythm Thief - Hotel Dusk
    Now Playing : Pandora's tower - Bioshock

Still looking for Kid Icarus Cards! If you got any that you don't want anymore, they'll get some awsome love!

Both very similar in general style, but different in feel and execution. They're both great games, much beloved by fans, but they take different approaches to game design: Super Metroid has an elegant completeness to it, where there's a place for everything and everything in its place. Every item and every room has a purpose -- nothing is extraneous. Much like Oath.

Symphony of the Night, on the other hand, is a sprawling, chaotic sandbox of a game. There are hundreds of items and abilities in that game, many of which have no real purpose -- but they're fun to collect and use. The castle itself, too, is full of dead-ends and loops. In general, it's a game that gives you much more to do, but loses a bit of that elegant completeness in the process. And Ys Seven is very much the same sort of thing.

Given your comments earlier, it sounds like the sprawling chaos is exactly what you're looking for: items, characters and dungeons everywhere, with tons of ways to beat every boss, tons of extra things to keep you busy, etc. And Ys Seven definitely delivers. Because of all of that, though, it's a much easier game than Felghana, since you have so many different ways to handle any situation -- so if you enjoy the challenge, I highly recommend starting Ys Seven in hard mode at the least, if not nightmare.

I think Tom makes a very accurate comparison here. The other big similarity between Symphony of the Night and Ys 7 is the reduced difficulty compared to some of the more hardcore entries in both series. I felt that Ys 7 Nightmare was approximately equivalent to Oath in Felghana on hard in terms of how often I would have trouble with bosses. In particular, the fact that you get archers and a mage in the group is a huge deal as you can occasionally ignore bosses' attacks while just wailing away at max distance.

Ys 7 still has amazing boss fights though and the theme, "Vacant Interference" is still as awesome as when I first heard it. Do be warned though that there is no boss rush mode , so you should make saves as you go along if you want to revisit bosses.

I'm guessing this is because Ys 7 doesn't have voice acting. I personally found this a blessing, with no offence intended to any castle guards reading this thread who did a perfectly good job. The two big bad Gs in Oath though were acting so hammily as to make my Greek relatives look like vegetarians.

I really missed that, I only kept a save for the big undead bird, which was an awsome fight on Vacant Interference.

I'm still listening to this track, it's sooo great!

Awwww... I still think our Felghana voices turned out really well, personally, with rare exception... but then, I guess I was a bit close to the production, so I have a bit of bias.

In fairness, you were competing with Falcom J.D.K. for us to listen to. Also, I'm just going to chuck this in here, because it requires little justification and is semi-relevant as we're discussing soundtracks.
