The strange part is that Xenoblade has dual language voice-overs. Both Xenoblade and The Last story were translated by Nintendo of Europe. I guess Xenoblade received the royal treatment since it was developed by one of Nintendo's studios (Monolith Soft).

I don't know about "royal treatment" but I think there are a lot of things that go into securing the Japanese voices too, such as price tag. TLS has a ton of lines. Not only that but maybe there just isn't enough space on the disk for both the Japanese and English? TLS has in-game pre-rendered CGI cinematics while Xenoblade doesn't. These kinds of things can take up a lot of memory.

I was thinking: look at the bright side, TLS with a british dub is better than an american dub.

Any of those could be a reason for not being there but usually this comes down to cost or file size limitations. Not sure how many GB the game runs at but if TLS has as good of a cast as claimed, those licenses run for a lot of money, sometimes more than the cost of the game license (!). It may be good but when you're talking about fees in excess of what the GAME runs for, it's not a worthwhile pursuit when the number of folks who'd prefer the original cast is a fairly small minority (and if push comes to shove in terms of the disc volume, the potential dub-preferring audience is much larger).

Looking at some sources for reference, The Last Story seems just shy of 8 GB in size, which is considerably bigger than the standard Wii game, I think. I believe the average size for Wii games is about 4 GB or so now, though someone is free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Sounds right, 4.7 GB (regular disc) and 8.5 GB (dual-layer).

Unfortunate that they were unable to get the japanese audio, but it's not really a suprise, all too often you hear how a game doesn't have dual audio because they have to pay extra (usually overpriced) fees to get the japanese audio, i find it saddening that the video game industry in japan doesn't do more to "own" or have better terms in the contracts with voice actors so that dual audio can become a standard for international releases of japanese video games.

The anime industry is very aware that people want dual language options, having only 1 just eliminates some of the audience, i myself have passed on several games because of the lack of dual audio and i will continue to do so in the future with few exceptions(Ragnarok Odyssey & the Persona series are the only ones i can think of atm).

Probably not so much better or worse than it is "Finally, some NEW voice actors/actresses to listen to".
If there were no (developer/publisher) to complain about, we would need to invent it.

Whew, a little late to this party but I just noticed that whoever voices the "Knight Guard" outside the castle gates as well as a few in-game scenes with the guards in the castle are done by the same guy who did Ostrava (Brostrava) of Boletaria in Demon Souls. Wish I knew his name. His voice is so awesome!
