Quotation marks never gave me any problems, but I guess I never learned how punctuation works with parentheses. My understanding is that you only use punctuation if there is a complete sentence inside them, and even if there is you still punctuate the sentence outside the parentheses.
Also, I hate the word parentheses. I spelled it wrong every time I typed it except the last one.
