Well, unlikely it's going anywhere, being digital an' all.
Well, unlikely it's going anywhere, being digital an' all.
I can understand the justification for this as staff have still put in the same blood, sweat and tears. Some sensible part of me nevertheless rebels when getting a copy of a game/book packaged up and sent 100s of miles is cheaper than downloading it. Presumably, Atlus are just trying to cultivate some sort of premium image.
I guess similar apparent insanity exists in other industries. It is significantly cheaper to fly from the south of England to Scotland than it is to go by train by example (or at least was when I was living there).
Well, when you have a simultaneous physical and retail release, it makes sense to have them at the same price, (although retail copies being cheaper is common due to retailers themselves setting their own prices at the end of the day), so they don't undercut one another, and then price cuts get introduced which should keep them at roughly the same price as time goes on (although retailers, again, can mess this up).
It's more of an agreement so retailers don't feel as though they're getting ripped-off by being told they have to sell at a higher price than an equivalent digital version, and then refuse to stock their games, which they could well do, thus cutting off quite a significant part of sales in future.
Sorry, Ringwraith. Of course your observation that retailers would be screwed over by my hypothetical "fair" digital pricing, and thus that developers can't afford to undercut the sales avenues they rely upon, is quite cogent. I should have done a bit more research/thinking before voicing that opinion.
Atlus and premium image in the same sentence? These are the guys who chose of all things to bring over, the worst renditions of Growlanser and Kenka Bancho.
Currently Playing: Fire Emblem: Awakening, Digimon Adventure, Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed
Games Beaten in 2013: 8: Retro Game Challenge, Corpse Party 2U, Code of Princess, Dark Souls, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Atelier Meruru, Yakuza: Dead Souls, Liberation Maiden
I was suggesting a possible reason for their refusal to drop prices long after release. I don't know if that is indeed what they are trying to do and probably Atlus wouldn't say anything if they were asked. (http://atlus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7771 The OP in this thread didn't get any sort of reply at all unsurprisingly.)

How often does PSN do sales? There's "Spring Fever", so I'm wondering if they do any more for other seasons.
