Best Role-Playing Game
Dark Souls
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
The Witcher 2
Best Writing
Batman: Arkham City
L.A. Noire
Portal 2
Saints Row: The Third
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
So they nominate TiTs for best RPG. And after that...best writing is this...? Really?
Dunno it sounds contradicting or, as said before, this is totally mainstream and by some luck opinion by someone that likes Jrpgs actually got through.
The fact that Ys Seven isn't nominated for best soundtrack after they actually looked at TiTs for this is also..baffling.
EDIT:
Nevermind I forgot Ys Seven was a 2010 release. Guess that might be it.

Hope will never die because in our times of despair, hope is the warmth that we all have that we can share. No matter how much life seems to hurt, stand up and never give up. Fight it and come back VICTORIOUS!!!
Whenever our souls feel in pain. We intertwine and make a miracle. The miracle that is our love.

Saints Row: The Third, writing, writing, Saints Row: The Third. Yes, that's definitely not right.
I can totally agree with L.A. Noire and Portal 2, though.
I know its just...weird. If they actually nominated LoH they have to have played it and noticed the amazing writing. Half of those games in Best Writing don't really deserve to be there.
I don't like it either but unfortunately its reality. Videogame industry is becoming bigger and bigger and as a business it will only sell what sells the most, mainstream. As a result we won't get a lot of quality games often and in stuff like this only mainstream will make it through, even if theres other more niche stuff that deserves to be there more than what was picked.
If Saints Row The Third wins this will be my reaction:
